Will Microsoft keep Megis?

Recommended Posts

MS could make the home field Baghdad Int'l, then maybe another dictator could destroy that one...and save the US military some assets...

Also, the runway alignment makes it easy to remember when you're learning to fly - especially patterns -it's much easier to figure out headings. There can't be too many airports with runways that point exactly North/South.

>Because FS is meant to model the real world, Meigs should be >removed from flight sim.Second that; They also removed the Twins after Sept 11th.

i agree, if so many of us want real as it gets then it should be replaced with the image of the park, i mean c'mon you can allways land a float plane right beside it (although in real life im sure you couldn't), i vote for lake burkfront it has the look and feel of meigs for the startup a/p - its time to move on folks.also, very off topic - but i enjoy vocabulary a lot and i have to say that is an excellent use of the word "pique" i havent seen that word used much, very nice indeed.Ciao!Brian S

First of all, my apologies to anyone I "stepped" on yesterday in the heat of the moment and, what Daley did Sunday night! Sorry bout that.Focusing on MSFS, I think we need to go along with the theme of FS2004 and center on Historic aircraft, and airports. I also vote for Reagan, AKA Washington National, in DC. It would have the same set of challenges (+ more) for new pilots and a lot of fun for those of us who are familiar with the area and the restrictions. MS could kick up the scenery a bit more and you have a beautiful day or night experience flying near the Cap. As for Chicago, Meigs will be gone shortly, and on WGN news last night I also heard that the old Comiskey Park is now officially US Cellular Park. Two shots in one day! I am sure Wrigley Field will succumb in the following years to Wal Mart Field or Toyota Park. Money is gradually burying history, and tradition. Shame.Sorry again for the tangent but don't be surprised some day that some brain dead official forces Microsoft to put real restrictions in FS for National Security. I think Daley already sent a letter to the Congress asking for this already.See yah. Have a good day and God Bless our Troops!

As a professional corporate pilot for 30 years, I feel obligated to share a perspective. Although landing a business jet at Meigs is what I call a pucker, grunt and plant and is a general pain in the b*, I can tell you that many small jet and turboprop owners will ask their pilots to land at Miegs if doing business downtown. Its kind of like Washington National. Many flight departments have tried to sell the "boss" on landing at Dulles but were still asked to land at National. Now that is gone also. Wheelers and dealers of industry do not want to sit in a car for the additional 30 minutes or more to use the outlying airports. Time is money. Meigs is gone. National is gone. Life is simpler for pilots yet the value of general aviation aircraft to business has just been devalued! And the value of a promise from the mayor of Chicago has been rendered worthless!!!Keep Meigs as a symbol of times gone by when a mans word was worth something!

Leave Meigs in FS2004 for old times sake but establish a new signature airport for default startup. FS2004 or any new product deserves a positive launch, not a reminder of corrupt, gestapo style city politics. Mayor Daily is using terrorism as an excuse to shut Meigs down. Watch-a casino will be associated with the old Meigs site within 5 years with his pockets and cohorts will be getting their pockets lined. If terrorism was a valid reason then he should shut down O'Hare since it was American Airlines and United Airlines that hit the WTC!

If Meigs field ceases to be an airfield then of course it should be removed or at least show it as it is with torn a up runway etc! Best Wishes, Randy J. I think it was Bruce Artwick, the founding father of FS, who went to the U of Illinois.I wonder what he's up to nowadays and if he's flown FS2002?CF-AOA

You're correct there. One airfield here has been at issue for years now. It's operated jointly by 3 cities (weird, eh? I't located partly on the land of all 3). One of them wants to close it, the other two want to keep it open. The debate has been raging for years now.Official reason is noise (of course) but the real reason is that they'd like the land around it reassigned for putting up apartment blocks and office buildings.

The origin of the old FS3/FS4 coordinate system (didn't use latitude/longitude), which used numbers in the range of around -16384...+16383 for E/W and N/S coordinates, was somewhere in or around Champaign/Urbana.Siggy

I would love it to be San Diego...I went to law school there and I love that city. But MS would have to do a better job with the implementation...The standard box towers that represent SD now just do not do the skyline justice.
