To the whooping of the autopilot disconnect horn tried a manual approach to villafranca and was burnt badly.... a few questions....1. How do a switch that f******g horn off?2. How do I control speed on a manual approach?3. Whats the approach profile (how do they do it in real life)4. Why does FSX make such a hash of vectors to visual when approaching over high ground? (5 miles to go, still at 7,000 ft QFE)

Hello,1. Hit the A/P disconnect soft button on the yoke a second time when you disconnect to silence the aural warning (Or whatever you bind A/P disconnect button to either in FS or PMDG options bind menu).2. When flying a manual approach it is not an uncommon practice to leave the SPD window closed and under FMC control. 3. Not quite sure what you are asking. Perhaps someone else might chime in if they do.4. FSX's built-in ATC is garbage. If you are looking for a realistic ATC simulation you will need to go elsewhere to find it (payware).

I find it handy to have a VDP (visual descent point) for non-published vfr approaches. Since a 3-deg slope is equal to about 300 ft/nm this is easy... an altitude of 500 ft above runway elevation at 1.5 nautical mile works pretty good, or you could use 1000 ft at 3 nm. From there you can fly the VASI inbound.
