Hi,My warranty went out this week on my Dell XPS420 Q6600 3GB 8600GTS so I'm in the market for a replacement motherboard. Anybody heard any good deals lately? I will replace my video card and power supply sometime soon as well. I think I can run my CPU at a speed more like it was meant to run. I feel Dell under-clocked it a bit. I used to be fond of Abit but haven't checked on their stuff lately. Perhaps there's better? Thanks in advance, Dolph

I haven't seen any good deals on much of anything. People really seem to like Asus. I recently bought an MSI MB because it had three pci slots. Most boards have only two. It was moderatly priced, has a jumper fsb OC system(even I couldn't mess it up) and has workrd great so far. Look up your MB and see if Dell indeed used a board that runs at a slower speed than your Q6600. My bottom of the line Compaq came with a board that would take a better CPU.Bob

The P45s are probably the best deal right now:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131335Careful, though. Make sure Dell didn't prioritize the box connectors to a special mobo spec. It may not work with a standard mobo. I tried to swap in a mobo to a HP box lately and the power button was non-standard. It took whole new box.

Yes, as others have so rightly stated, make sure any new MB will fit in the Dell case unless you plan on getting a whole new case. Dell normally uses the modified BTX board which is smaller than the normal ATX board. I made that mistake several years ago and ended up getting a new case. Not sure I see a purpose for you to upgrade right now just because the Dell warranty has expired on your MB. I personally would wait until FS11.Best regards,Jim

Hi Dolph. In addition to what you got so far, make sure that your OS will work, Dell normally has it locked to their BIOS and a new Mobo will have a different BIOS and it may not work, it's very likely that it will Not. If you are lucky and you have a OEM that is not BIOS limited that may work. TV
