NO runway lighting...

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to add runway/taxiway lighting to an airport where none exists? I ask because a new airport that I like to fly to/from does not have any lighting. I think the airport may not be in use these days.Help please, Adam

Try FS Scenery Creator or Airport for Windows... I think they both have some lighting options. I've never used those features in either program, however...

Do a search on the Web for a file called RwyEd. It was for FS2000 but some options will work in FS2002. Just ignore the initial screen that says "FS2000 cannot be found on your computer" and go to folder you need for your airport.Airport information is in the FS2002/scenerydb/ folder but this is subdivided into regions around the world. You need to choose the region required and then open the Scenery folder. This then gives a huge list of BGL's.Now the bad news - I can't tell you which BGL you need to open. I can say it will start with F - e.g. F5406345.BGL so you can ignore all those beginning with ABP, HYP, HYL etc. The "F" BGL's cover an area of roughly 300nm x 300nm (varies with latitude) and run from west to east. I can only suggest opening some at random and checking the Lat/Long of a runway to see if you are anywhere near the airfield you want. When you open any BGL you don't get a list of airfields - just the runway designators for all runways in the area. When you finally hit the one you want (I hope you do!) click on Edit and you can then alter ANY of the default values for the runway - dimensions, markings, lighting whatever..boneshttp://fsaviation.net

Excellent leads gentlemen. Thanks. I once had FSArchitect but lost it due to a HDD crash. I thought about that bones as soon as you mentioned the .bgl files. I used to work with taxiwaysigns.com and we had to find airports in the similar manner of using coordinates.I'll look into these options. Thanks again guys, Adam
