Link to old forum topics

How do I find this topic / link?http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=set...;topic_id=22425A 2005 posting about "XML Mouse Overs" in the MSFS Aircraft and Panel Design Forum includes this link, but clicking it now results in "The requested URL /dcboard.php was not found on this server"Any way to get to the referred link?Thanks,Bob

In most cases all you need to do in a old link like that is to change the word forums to forums1 and it should work provided it is still there. I know there were some links that were removed for space reasons but most of them involved a file download and not a topic.

It appears that you cannot just simply add a '1' like this, as there still isn't a file in the new board software called "dcboard.php", so you'd still get a 404 file not found error because it's still looking for the old forum's .php file with the old forum's arguments which are also different from this new forum. At least, I got a 404 file not found when I just tried adding a 1...There is a bit more complex method, though... open any topic in the new forum, and you should see the proper url and arguments in the URL bar of your browser, including a "showtopic=____" argument. Take the number in the "topic_id=____" argument in the old forum link, and insert this number in place of the number in the new board's "showtopic=___" argument, and it *should* open the old post in the new forum if that topic still exists.. (To use the post you're looking for as an example, you'd want http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=22425 as that is what shows up in my Firefox URL bar...This is assuming, of course, that the conversion process kept all the same id numbers from all the pre-existing topics... If the conversion process changed the id numbers, then I don't know how to find it other than the search function...Hope this helps...

Thanks guys,I get to a topic 22425 using the suggestions you both have made, but, unfortunately, it is clearly not the topic that was originally referenced about Mouse Overs. I'll have to repost a new question .Bob

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but I have the same issues with old links.I tried the suggestions, but just like rpmc, I get the wrong threads back when I substitute the thread numbers.e.g. these two links should point to threads related to the (PSS) Boeing 777:

If I change then to the newest syntax, I only end up at the main page:

If I use the syntax suggested above, totally unrelated threads come up:

http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=11533http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=18128

Are those old discussions lost forever, or is there any to still access them - no matter how convoluted it may be...
