Vapp/Vref MD-11 FS9

Recommended Posts

I've been entering 180KIAS for GS intrcpt pt on ILS apprch in the FMS...will the aircraft slow to Vapp/Vref automatically with flaps 35 deg in APPR/LAND config? The last several ILS AUTOLANDs I've made the aircraft wants to maintain 180KIAS pretty much to flare (while FMS was indicating 160 Vapp and 156Vref)...is this normal? Or, do I need to enter Vref manually on the speed bug and press?ThanksCol (ret) Rich Perry, USAF

Using ATS, the FMS will decrease the bug on the speedtape at the beginning of the flap sequence although the speeds indicated on the MCDU may not indicate this. The default Vref is with 35deg flaps, you can lower it by selecting 50, which I normally do.In fact, the FMS will decrease speed very early during the STAR if necessary. If your target speed indication above the speed tape is in magenta then it is being set by the FMC.
