Hi Guys, First of all, great video! Now, I actually fly on the MD11 of KLM. Quito is a hard airport to make a good landing. Its elevation is so high that our groundspeed during landing is like 180 kts, which is fast... Therefore we try to land on the blocks so we have all the runway left to just BRAKE! Because of the high speed we have a high descent rate too. Sometimes almost 1100 fpm, even the sink rate warning comes on sometimes. That makes flaring difficult with the ballooning as a result
The reported numbers match exactly (Screenshot) Another demonstration from the product quality of the PMDG MD-11 http://www.flightlevel350.com/Aircraft_McD...Video-4845.htmlMartinair Cargo circling RWY 17: http://www.flightlevel350.com/Aircraft_McD...Video-9229.htmlHere is a nice Cockpit Video :http://www.biff.nl/images/filmpjes/Bonaire...lip%20final.wmvLong lives FS9!!Jan-Paul

Nice pics I'd be curious to see how you get out of there without any performance calculations.. Rob

Jan- Paul! very nice series, and that was for sure a real longhaul flight also. One question though, ain't you a bit low before landing?Shouldn't it be 2 red and 2 white? I know and you said it too, it can't be easy, with those mountains around the airport.Anyway.....a really a good series Jan-Paul. (Would it be possibly to ask whom you purchased that airport from :( )/ Leffe :(

Nice series, looks like you are having some real fun there!Leffe, looking at the G/S indicator in his cockpit view, it looks like he is on the glide, on the nail...FS is notorious for its incorrect PAPI indications... :DThis is an issue in FS9, not sure about FSX... not switched to the dark side yet ;)I would also be interested in knowing the scenery used...Andrew

Hi, regarding the PAPI's: They are aligned for the RNAV Approaches, therefor VGSI and descend angles are not coincident. This is noted on the RNAV Approach Charts but not on the ILS Charts. There were some real wordl reports on this topic regarding the Iberia A340-600 crash november 2007. Just a quick chime in before I go to work. Indeed there are heavy penalties leaving Quito. That's a main reason why KLM leaves Quito for Guayaquil before departing to Amsterdam. It is simply to high to get off with the amount of fuel they need to reach Amsterdam.Xander

FYI,The fuel stop to get to Amsterdam is done at Bonaire for about 8? years now.Rotation for the back end,Bonaire-Quito-Guayaquil-BonaireorBonaire-Guayaquil-Quito-Bonaireare both possible.Even this way, leaving Quito, whatever this next destination, has always been an interesting subject performance wise, that is, after landing there safely within set performance and procedure requirements.Regards,Harry
