traffic030528.bgl - cannot delete

i just upgraded my pc so now i'm running vista instead of xp. a couple issues following install of fs9 and i think they are related.issue 1 - i selected complete install so i would not need to use disc 4 when running fs9, but still need to insert disc 4.issue 2 - i ran traffic tools but when compiling i get the following error:ERROR: Unable to delete old traffic fileC:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\World\Scenery\Traffic030528.bglIs it write protected?i've tried various fixes, but can't seem to get around this error. my belief is the error is caused because the disc 4 data is not written to the hard drive. i completely uninstalled fs9, then installed again. no luck. would love some assistance with this.thank you.

Try renaming the file extension from .bgl to say.... .lgb or something like that.

1. Disk 4 is always required in your HD to start the program - the type of installation has nothing to do with it. That is MS way of being sure you have a legitimate copy.2. Have you turned off the "permissions" in Vista? Unless it is turned off, you will find many simple things such as editing files is not possible.I do not run Vista but understand you may need to setup your "permissions" to allow you to make changes which will be recognized.I have been told that you can do that for the FS2004 folder by Right clicking on it and set it and all subfolders under it to allow changes.You can also go your Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts and turn off UAC (User Account Control). That is a universal option which will of course remove any protection on your entire system.EDIT added: I strongly suggest that you do not delete your default traffic file - instead, rename it with a BAK or ORIG extension - that will disable it and allow you to restore it easily if you ever need to.Hope that helps.

thank you for the replies.can't quite explain it, but i resolved the issue. when right clicking on the start button and exploring, i was editing the wrong subfolders. for an unknown reason, they are in two different locations. i added all my ai aircraft and flight plans but they were not showing up. i could not edit the traffic bgl file at all. after realizing i was in this incorrect secondary set of sub folders, i quickly resolved my flight sim issues.i'm learning and more and more about vista as time goes on. it'll take some time for sure as it does every time i upgrade - 95 to 98 to xp to vista.

Best to not install FS in the default "Program Files" folder in Vista. Make a separate folder on C:. That way you can leave protections on if that is important to you. If you leave UAC on, start FS (or any program) by right click\ Run As Administrator.Bob
