Help FSk2 Freezes when starting Multiplayer

My PC is an Alien Laptop P4 2.4 Mkz running on win Xp professional with SP1.When I go to the second page of multiplayer and click OK or whatever Ive got to click, the HD does nothing except spin, but it does not activate multiplayer.I installed DirextX 9.0a but that did not do anything. Is there a conflict with SP1 ?Can I get some help, other than reinstalling ? Did you do a search first? You have to search and then choose a connection, if any come up in the box. Then you can click OK...... Should connect then.Joe

Had the same issue. Download and install the latest DirectX 9.0a. That will resolve it.CheersShez

Make sure after you reinstall directx9.0a, you run dxdiag and test each function including the network. Make sure it indicates the directplay are installed properly.

A couple of things to double-check before you start getting crazy and installing new copies of directx, or anything else.First - run dxdiags before you do anything else - if there are problems, it'll show them.Second - you only have to "search" for a session if you are attempting to join someone else's multiplayer session (via The Zone, or otherwise). If you want to narrow down the problem, try to *host* a session (via TCP/IP) and see what happens.Third - you *did* turn off XP's built-in firewall, right? If not, this can cause lockups. If you are concerned about hackers, get a copy of Zonealarm (free) - which allows not only a standard "let nothing in or out" firewall, but also offers "per-application" access.Finally - disable any anti-virus software and see what happens.Good Luck...
