Operating from High Altitude Airports - MD11

Hello Folks:I would appreciate any suggestions on how to set up the pressurization system for a departure from an airport such as La Paz, Bolivia (SLLP), that is located at 13,300 ASL. I would also appreciate advice on how to set up the system for an arrival to that airport so that I can decompress the cabin before opening the doors, without bursting everybody's ear drums! I have departed and arrived from the airport, but wih many lights on the overhead staying on and the automated voice system very very unhappy.Thx!Roberto

If the FMS is programmed with origin/destination and flight plan then the cabin pressurization will handle high altitude airports. Granted, I didn't test it at 13000msl but it seemed to work okay at KDEN KSLC and KABQ (in the 5000-6000msl range).

Thats incorrect. The cabin altitude controller allows selection of 1,000feet below sea level to 14,000 feet MSL. This should happen automatically when Dep and Arr airport is entered into the FMC, but it can be set manually.

No it's not. The systems may allow for higher altitudes in theory, however the MD-11 is not certified for landing and departure above 10'000ft MSL.Regards,Markus

I guess that the answer is that, in theory, you can operate there, but really you shouldn't.Reminds me of the days when "stewardesses" used to distribute chewing gum before take off ...Thank you everybody for responding.Roberto
