Does fullscreen mode typically way outperform windowed mode in Vista 64?

Featured Replies

I installed Vista 64 and find this to be the case, whereas with XP I had very much equal performance in either mode. Is this typical, or have I got an issue? Thanks in advance,Noel

Noel,You do not have any issues. That is typical performance. Under Vista in general (not just Vista x64), FSX performs better in full screen than it does in windowed mode.

I have the 280GTX back in now and it is running smooth in Vista 64 with the 181.20 drivers. Going to install my lovely Mustang and see if I can still say that! I'm learning basic stuff in Vista and it's not too bad. Everything just seems a little more snappy . . .Sarg, do you play Crysis? I was contemplating reinstalling it in Vista to see how DX10 goes. It is running really well in XP now with the 280GTX, plus sunshafts enabled . . .

Nope, have not done Crysis but did try Farcry2 and it was pretty awesome.

It depends on the system. Windowed mode, in all FS versions, has always been better for me.

Interesting. I have always preferred windowed mode, and found performance to be about on a par with full screen. Not so with Vista 64 on this hardware.
