Top Down View shortcut

Hello you FSX gurus. I wonder if you can help me get my Top Down View shortcut back. Initially I assigned F12 to the shortcut function in the Options>Controls>Assignments. That worked well for me due to flying on Vatsim and sometimes needing to view the airport and taxiways as quickly as possible. At some point, F12 began to give what it calls Cockpit View (only no panel) and to get the Top Down View I have to use more key strokes now.I currently hit the Alt key and then Views and then Top Down on Outside View to get it and I really would like the simple F12 keystroke back. By the way I tried other keys and the same result every time so it's not a keyboard issue.Running FSX SP1 (Uninstalled-reinstalled) with XP with all SP's. Some freeware add-on aircraft installed, but I tried the shortcut feature when I reinstalled with no add-ons and still get the Cockpit View instead.

Why can't you assign this function to F12 in the same manner you did initially?

Hi Art: I guess I didn't explain myself very well, new to forums. What happened is that for some time the shortcut worked very well, and then unexpectedly the F12 shortcut instead of showing Top Down View began showing Cockpit View. I then went into the Controls Assignments and re-assigned F12 to the Top Down View only to have it show Cockpit View. After the re-install I again went to Assignments, assigned F12 to Top Down View only to have it show Cockpit View when I made the keystroke. Sorry for the lack of info/misunderstanding.

When I started to customize my hotkeys, I found that trying to make the control assignments MATCH the actual assignments DID NOT WORK.All that is required is to put the hotkey assignments with the desired Camera definitions.I didn't realize until I just looked, but I have NO control assignment for top-down view but it works normally with only the connection in the top-down camera definition. Here are my 'settings'; Notice also what F12 is actually assigned to: View Camera Select 4 (i.e. wherever camera HotKeySelect_4 is placed) not the Top-down view itself. Why this should be so anti-intuitive is a mystery I won't be spending any time on...

-----------------------_cameras.cfg_[CameraDefinition.006]Title = Top-Down.HotKeySelect=4------------------------_standard.xml_<Entry> <Key>F12</Key> <Down>VIEW_CAMERA_SELECT_4</Down></Entry>-------------------------Control assignments:Slew (Tilt Right)Top-Down View (shortcut)	<< ___no assignment___View (always pan down) Ctrl+Q.View Camera 4 (select) F12
