PSS A320 or the new Wilco A320 PIC?

Recommended Posts

Guest SIX

I just think they are both great packages. I hope people have not read my prior post thinking I am pulling 100% for Wilco here. The Wilco package is very innovative and system failure oriented, just like the PIC 767 - a package no one should be without :).Now, that being said, the PSS package flat out rocks! I am literally split 50/50 on these birds. I think there is great "+" for each and "-" for each. One's "+" balances the others "-". Maybe it should be like I overheard a couple teachers once in school talking about the 1984 Election here in the States for President: One teacher said to the other "I just wish we could have Ronald Reagan as President and Walter Mondale as V.P" and everybody laughed knowing that was impossible. Regardless of your political leaning, relating this to these great aircraft, maybe we wish we could merge the two birds and get rid of their negative aspects. But, that just isn't going to happen either. All being said, I think both packages are great and worthy of pulling out the ol' credit/debit card and not a waste of time downloading. They are both challenging and rewarding. I am glad I was able to get both packages :) I know I will enjoy both, as they both have a time and place to be flown. Enjoy!-----------Wilson HinesChief CaptainBush Logistics Corp.http://heavylhc.comAOL IM: dal276wh

The Eurowings Pro aircraft is nothing more or less than a slightly modified version of the old IADG A319. It's an FS2000 model...Their FMC is actually a 737-400 FMC, purchased from Dreamfleet 2000.It's no real comparison to the accuracy of the PSS offering at all (don't have the Wilco one, it's supposed to be quite good too).

I tell ya, it would be nice to see an A330 and A340 as most Asian carriers, especially the Flying Tigers Group - http://www.cpavirtual.org/virtual_atp.htm - use the 330 and 340 a whole bunch. Is there any 330 or 340 payware models on the market? If so, where?-----------Wilson HinesChief CaptainBush Logistics Corp.http://heavylhc.comAOL IM: dal276wh

Wilson,>> Is there any 330 or 340 payware models on the market? If so, where? Not yet, but two in development :http://www.aviograsf.com/screens.htmand http://www.anticyclone.be/experience.htmlIf you ask me, the second looks the most promising, as the 320PIC developers have already experience how to deal with the Airbus philosophy. However, their 340 will have a 2D panel this time.Anyway, with the 310 released soon by SSW and Johan's PSS related remarks there are interesting times coming for Airbus fans :)Michael

Thanks for the quick response, but I was more acuratly speaking of panels. Anybody, it seems, can work a quick model up in GMAX, but few can do gauges and quality panels.Thanks-----------Wilson HinesChief CaptainBush Logistics Corp.http://heavylhc.comAOL IM: dal276wh

None that I know of, unfortunely. The age old FS problem, nice models, nice paints, no panels :(Not to diss the panel developers, I know panels of quality take a long time to make, and make em right. :)

I finally received my PIC CD and was really apprehensive after reading the various complaints regarding FPS. Now, you may ask why I bought it if I didn't think it was any good. Well I was one of those that preordered the package back in November of 2002.I went ahead and loaded it up, printed all the manuals along with an excellent tutorial which can be found here on their forum. I also loaded the latest patch.I was all set to expect low FPS among other problems. However, after setting FS and PIC up along with my CH Yoke and Pedals I then fired it up, following the tutorial and found that it worked very well. Yes the VC takes some getting used to but FPS was in the 20 to 28's with sliders not changed from previous settings except for PIC recommendations which don't affect outside visuals. I've got a lot more reading and learning but this is a package that works and works well.I don't have the PSS model so I can't comment on it. My system specs are a P4 2.66, GForce T4800, 512mb Ram and WIN98SE.

Hey that is great Lamont. (BTW, my father always called me "Fred" as a nick name. Now if you "get that" your telling on your age :)Anyway, FPS - man I don't know how you get 20 FPS. I have a strong arse of a system and I am getting 5 to 11 while in the cockpit.-----------Wilson HinesChief CaptainBush Logistics Corp.http://heavylhc.comAOL IM: dal276wh

Wilson,>> I have a strong arse of a system and I am getting 5 to 11 while in the cockpit.make sure you set the virtual cockpit quality to low, reflections off and deactivate any potential resource eaters in the background (such as virus scanners or whatever).I have 15-20 fps with a moderate Laptop system at 1600*1200*32 resolution (P4 2.0, 512 MB, ATI Fire7800, sliders around medium, no AI traffic).Michael

Most likely it's not "more" realistic but has different parts of the total that's an A320 modelled better (thus different compromises made) than the PSS version. If you want realistic, start an airline and call Toulouse for some at-cost A320s :-lol

That was Johan talking way outside the official company line :-lolI've heard (from very reliable inside sources) that it's another twin with winglets that has quite a lot of commonality with the 320 series.
