Recommended Posts

Is anyone else having trouble downloading things from avsim tonight? I am trying to download a AFCAD and it taking forever just to get to the point where I click on the download button to start downloading the file! I gave up after waiting 10 minutes!!

Nope, not a problem here. I just downloaded a 14 meg file at just over 600 Kbs. The library is working fine. What browser are you using? Have you done a PING and a TRACERT to library.avsim.net?EDIT: I used FIREFOX V3.0.6 to test the downloads.

I am using Internet Explorer 7. How do you do a PING and a TRACERT to library.avsim.net? I never done that before.

As an example, here is a TRACERT that I just ran:

I tried to download the file again (and a few others) and it did work, and was quick. I'm not sure why I couldn't download it before. :(

This topic and your question needs to have a FAQ issued. I will work on that, and hopefully have it up in the next day or two. Keep an eye on the FAQ section of the forums in which we'll explain how to do a PING and TRACERT.EDIT: I am also beginning to have my doubts about IE 7 and 8 for that matter.

I'm also stuck with slow downloads from Avsim library. Using Opera, I can't get past 20 kB/s per download, so it takes ages to get files from the Library. This is what I've got using TRACERT:

Thanks Tom. And I'm sorry, because I tried today from my office and I got an average of 143 kB/s for a 10MB download (not bad for one of the most downloaded helicopters) and later I got 336 kB/s (definitely not bad) with one of MeatWater's Radar Contact voice packs, so I guess the problem is not on your side but mine. I'll have to go home and compare to see if it's my computer or my ISP the problem.Anyway, thanks a lot for your help and the Library.Best regards from ColombiaLuis Miguel

One other thought on this subject If you are using a broadband connection your hub could be slowing you down during peak times.

Could the slow downloads be from all the Photo realistic Chile files that have been added to the library everyday since 2004?

Maybe, but it won't explain the bandwidth I still had available, unless it could distinguish between surfing and downloading (and therefore assign priorities). Anyway, I tried last night from home and there was no slowness in the downloads. I suspect the problem was my ISP, I've had problems in the past entering Avsim using the same ISP (but in a different city). I think that counts as Strike Two. At least the problem didn't go beyond Sunday. And for Jeff, the only time I remember Avsim's Library server was saturated was when Clutch Cargo et al released 9Dragons Kai Tak. I don't think Chilean mesh and photo scenery have something to do with this, but Tom may know better.Best regards from ColombiaLuis Miguel
