Vista DEP and FSX

I have just installed FSX on my new Windows Vista and after installing SP1 and SP2 Acceleration I installed my scenery and aircraft files.However, when I click on "Fly Now" I have problems loading Terrain data which runs up to about 32% - slows down and thenFSX crashes. This is followed by a message from Vista regarding Data Execution Prevention which as I understand it is stoppingFSX loading when a file uses memory incorrectly. Unfortunately DEP cannot be removed from FSX use so I am stuck.I have unactivated all my scenic addons in the library - run the repair option with `Acceleration` - same resultHas anyone experienced this problem and found a cure? George,In my experience with Vista, DEP, and FSX what I've found is to install FSX to it's own location outside of the "program files" folder as bobbyjack has stated. If FSX is installed outside the "program files" folder and you are still getting errors, then either your install of FSX is corrupted or you may be experiencing problems related to an aggressive overclock (more over the memory and its timings). Keep in mind that just because a overclocked system stress tests fine it is in no way taxed the way FSX will tax it.

I've had good luck upgrading my OS to Windows XP so that the OS doesn't stop me from running programs on my own computer.

I'm running both, and Vista runs the sim a little better, so I haven't flown the XP install for quite a while. May be time to uninstall it and free up the drive it's on.Noel

Wonder if I have Vista on drive C: and FSX on drive D: will I be free of that exception, etc problem(s). It's not in same 'Program Files' folder as Vista. Just curious. I could even get a (cheap) 40 Gig HDrive and set it up as D: drive (7200 RPM, of course). FSX will fit in there nicely, with room to spare. It's amazing how obscure little 'details' can ruin things. Chuck, if you installed FSX to your D:\ drive, why not simply install it to:D:\FSX ???There's no need for the elaborate D:\Program Files... nonsense! :(
