Adding my old HDD to my new PC

AllMy new PC arrives today. It has a 300GB Velociraptor HDD and a 640GB 7200rpm HDD. Instead of transfering the data on my old PC to the new one, can I simply remove the drive from old and plug it into the new mobo ? My old PC (HDD) is running XP Home and the new PC is Vista Home Premium 64bit?Both old and new drives are SATAthankserich

The answer is Yes and No :)Windows has to install all new drivers to the hardware components. When I will do the upgrade I do it like that: do a full backup, install a new hardware, recover from backup (You can simply transfer the HDD, but DON'T forget about the backup).But I will encourage You to install all from scratch - it is only 2, maybe 3 days without flying :)

I have done this many times and i don't think I ever had a problem hardware wise. But possible some software might have to be re-activated.

The only time this sort of thing proves anything less than straightforward is when you have SATA drives and are trying to connect an old IDE drive too, on those occasions you tend to have to screw around with the settings a bit to get things going, but if they are all newer drives than it should be fine. You might find that you need to stick the odd driver onto the old hard drive so that it uses all the functions of the new motherboard and OS, but if you are just using the old drive as a dump for data and pulling the odd thing off it, as long as it sees the thing then there should be very few problems.I'd be tempted to do a reinstall of everything myself, just to keep things neat, but it shouldn't prove vital to do it.Al

Erich, I'd do a reinstall of FSX on the VRaptor disk.
