The ones I know of are GameCam, CamStudio and Growler GunCam. As the name suggests, Growler GunCam is intended for recording flight sim footage and I think the new version has some editing capabilities too. CamStudio is aimed at recording your desktop for doing software tutorials, so to record a game or sim you might have to be in windowed mode, but not having tried it I can't say if that's certain, I do know that CamStudio saves files in the SWF (i.e. Adobe Flash) format, so you'd probably need to get hold of some editing software other than WMP in order to screw around with things. GameCam is aimed at recording things like first-person shooters, but I guess it would work on a flight sim too.I personally use FRAPs and I get around the frame problems by either recording an FS replay, or by timeshifting the footage in Adobe After Effects. It's also worth noting that if you want to record something to go on YouTube with FRAPs, you can get away with dropping the record setting quite considerably.Al

The way to reduce the recording settings for FRAPS is to record at 29.95 (not 30-50 fps) and at 'half size' (and not 'full screen'). I make and post videos shot like that to YouTube and they look fine. Then save at 1.5 mbs and no more. YouTube then converts to Flash format, and IT adjusts it sufficiently to pass muster. Recording replays is 'ok'. You will get the red text, but it's no biggee. Recording replays will allow you to change views, which is hard to do when flying and trying to record 'live'. Also, you can do several 'takes' and then choose the one you want and delete the others. Edit in WMP is not effected by recording at 29.95 fps. Be sure to turn off fps if recording in windowed mode, as the yellow fps will show. Also, don't check 'No Sync' as it will effect sound/video being in sync. And, ck 'No Cursor' (you will not need it as you are not 'pointing' out things, as you would in a demo or how-to. Using the new 'fspLimiter' will allow you to make smooth looking/sounding videos in FSX (where you could not do it without it). In FS9, the main culprit for bad frames is the Auto Gen (dah).Chuck BNapamule

Hello,My generic answer about the usage of FRAPSUse FsRecorder (freeware) for record your flight.http://www.fs-recorder.netRecord with FRAPS (set FRAPS accordingly like Napamule settings or other more suitables for your specifications) the replay sequence of FsRecorder.Edit your result video with Movie Maker (this proggy is part of the WinXP and Vista OS)Comment about Growler Guncam:I have the registered version and was never able to have good results when use it with FS2004.Some videos I made with FRAPS using Fsrecorder first:http://www.vimeo.com/2113312http://www.vimeo.com/2654281http://www.vimeo.com/3169969http://www.vimeo.com/3350176http://www.vimeo.com/2004305Spec:P4 3Ghz1 GB RAMTI 4600 128 MBRegards.bye.gif

I was also suffering from fps drop when recording my computer gameplay of Steam with Fraps. The size is also too big. I think you can try Camtasia Studio(https://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html). It is far better than FPS for its user friendly purpose. The only problem you may face is its output formats of CAMREC and CAMPROJ. For they are exclusive formats of Techsmith, you must convert them to those common playable formats like MP4 and AVI only then can you play the recordings on Windows Media Player or your own portable devices ( http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/camproj-to-mp4.html )
