Is this an aircraft you are modelling ? if so you need to use the attach point tool to attach the effects to your plane . RTMIf a downloaded aircraft there is a dearth of information to work with in your post and the model in question at least would help .

The original release of FSX had problems with the lights and the two service packs took care of them on the default aircraft,on my install the taxy lights and landing lights are working fine , are you running the RTM version , SP1 or SP2 ?

In Direct X preview mode i sometimes have lights vanish from the front but are visible from the side and back on any aircraft ,are yours never there or only there from the back ?

There are no taxi lights on this aircraft (in FSX, not real world). If you switch the landing lights on, you will see the nose gear 'lit'.

There is an error in the default .mdl that mistakenly assigned the taxi lights to the landing lights electrical switch. :(

yes it can be fixed , change the following -> light.12 = 5, into light.12 = 6, in the lights section of the aircraft .cfgchecking further i noted it was a .cfg error and not a .mdl attachpoint error , the cockpit taxi light switch worked fine after changing this one number.
