Dumb Question about helocopters...

Can you trim a helicopter for pitch?I ask this because if I takeoff and let go of the stick my helicopter will pitch nose up and start flying backwards very fast. Also, to cruise, I have to keep quite a bit of forward pressure on the stick. Is this normal? kinda tough when travelling a fair distance. Thanks, Adam :-rotor

Yes that is normal for a helicopter. Never let go of the collective, always balance with the cyclic and the torsion bars. You have to always FLY a helicopter!

"Never let go of the collective..."I believe this is why the pilot sits in the right seat with the collective in his left hand. The collective is the only control that will stay put for a few seconds in order to free up a hand for switching radios.
