Kazunori Ito's Bristol Beaufighter - No tailwheel steering

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,I'm a big fan of Mr Ito's work and have downloaded his excellent WW11 Bristol Beaufighter.Unfortunately, there does not seem to be an option for tailwheel steering - unlike the default FS9 DC3 and other taildraggers.Opa has published instructions for tweaking the DC3 in one of his excellent 'tips and tricks' downloads, but there is no immediately obvious similarities with the Beaufighter's .cfg file.I know that differential braking or use of rudder can turn the aircraft on the ground, but I personally find tailwheel steer much easier.Any suggestions anybody ?Regards to all........Stuart U.K. :(

Hi John,I don't believe it did actually. Since my post I've done bit of digging on the net and it looks as if it just had a tailwheel lock for take offs and landings.I use the sim without rudder pedals and find it much easier to steer when taxiing with the joystick. I am going to try and use 'real world' taxiing techniques with this a/c !Regards :(

I did a little "experimenting" and got the aircraft to turn on the ground using only my joystick. The files I used were B_Fighter_TFX.zip and an update named beau_fix.zip - both from Simviation.com.The edit I made to the [contact points] label are as follows[contact_points]//point.0=1.000000,-13.550000,0.000000,-3.200000,1574.803150,0.000000,0.639029,0.000000,0.337175,2.500000,0.691284,5.000000,5.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000point.0=1.000000,-13.550000,0.000000,-3.200000,1574.803150,0.000000,60,60,0.337175,2.500000,0.691284,5.000000,5.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000point.0 was commented out with the two forward slash marks and the revised point.0 was inserted just below it.Hope this helps anyone else who may wish to be able to steer this aircraft on the ground using their joystick.

Hello,Just tested this plane ....It's something wrong there :)The elevators are pratically no moving and they move opposite (a slightly move BTW) of the joystick inputsAnd the plane is completely instable and try go left or right when taking off (never was able to take off lol)All this with or without the OPA modification and using the fix or not ...That's actually on my enormous plane collection the only one with this weird behavior.Must be a fault somewhere and I hope it's in the aircraft.cfg .....EDITTested also the "21" model and same phenomena.Must be faulty air file ....Second editAnd I found this Fumeur13.gifhttp://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/Ya...um=1128957894/0Regards.bye.gif

Hello,Oki doki .... content.gifTested (after modifications as per the other forum) and NOW this plane fly perfectly thumbs.gifNeed a lot of flaps and elevator positive trim for take off and full power ...Once airborne this plane have plenty power available and fly perfect .. but the commands are sensibles (just to be used with)For better sound .. I use the Alphasim Blenheim sounds .So ... htfc .. you know what make.My personnal conclusion after this little struggle time ....I 'm wondering if the creator had once tested this plane in the sim ...Regards.bye.gif

Thanks once again David - your advice on .cfg files is a tremendous help. :( I now have a steerable tail wheel, although I managed to get the aircraft to taxi OK by importing a dual throttle set-up from the P38 Lightning and tweaking the .cfg file to take an extra window.Note to Belga - great images of the Beau ! Shows up how good Kazunori Ito's work is :(
