Kai Tak IGS 13/HELP PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

Guest boeingflir

I'm going to try to appeal to your higher senses once again. I just installed 9Dragons Kai Tak freeware. It's pretty darn nice. Now I need a way to guide myself and my PMDG 747-400, electronically to a landing. I am running FS9 and need to get the IGS 13 into my Navigraph FMC database. I found a nice setup for FSX but no FS9. I also have a Level D 767 and just put the Just Flight 777 in too. If you can help me with any of these aircraft I'd be very appreciative. Obviously there are many of you flying this approach. HELP PLEASE!Thanks.Bruce Jacobs

Hi Bruce, go into the goodies section of 9Dragons and you will find a sids star file designed for the the PMDG 747-400ALSO you will need to add these two lines to Your Navdata wpNavApt. Do this and your ready to go.Hong Kong VHHX31 10930316 22.304401 114.216064109.9031600015Hong Kong VHHX13 10930136 22.324850 114.193176111.9013600015Cheers Greg YSSY

Bruce, I suggest you read the manual that comes with 9 Dragons. But you will find the file in your addon scenery in flight sim. Cheers Greg YSSY

OK Vaughn I see your point. While getting back to this thread I found another thread posted by BlakeWilliams yesterday titled "Don't Yell At Me" regarding my problem. We couldn't find the airports.dat folder for one thing and hopskip explains in the thread where it is. I'll see if I can find it. He also provides a link that gives a step by step approach to getting this thing set up with another link to the SIDs and STARS. Does this make sense to you?Do you have any other suggestions? I ended up with FlyTampa's beautiful scenery and am flying the PMDG 747-400 on FS9. Like I said our biggest problem was finding this airports.dat folder. Never did actually. Any help and exactly where to find the locations and folders to enter the text (my "tech" knows how) will be appreciated. I'm tired of seeing "Not In Database."ThanksBruceboeingflir Yesterday, 08:29 AMPost #3MemberGroup: MembersPosts: 488Joined: 2-May 02Member No.: 101,761Take a look at:http://hk.vatsea.net/fns/080705/?go=dlYou will need to add some text to a file called wpNacAPT.txt in the Nav data page. (usually FMCWP) and also in the airports.dat file in the same folder. This isn't SIDs and STARs however, just the location of the airport. These (SID/STAR/APP) should be the latest version (v9) from here:http://www.navdata.at/php/sidstar/dl_list....G&icao=VHHXTrent

Bruce,First lets see where your files are located. I am assuming FS9.Do you have these paths on your PC?C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\PMDG\SIDSTARSC:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\fmcwp\NavDataIf not, stop here and let me know.Information you asked for, where is airports.dat?C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\fmcwp\NavDataInside this "NavData" folder, find WpNavApt.txt and airports.dat files.Do you have these? If you do we will do the next steps, editing the files... let me know.Next ...Use Notepad (Microsoft plain text editor) to open up this file : WpNavApt.txtScroll down (or search for) "HONG KONG" inside this file. You will see four HONG KONG lines like this:HONG KONG VHHH07L12468073 22.310917 113.897967111.1007300022HONG KONG VHHH07R12468073 22.296675 113.899444109.3007300027HONG KONG VHHH25L12468253 22.307431 113.932822108.9025300027HONG KONG VHHH25R12468253 22.321122 113.929639110.9025300022** notice how all the columns (decimal points) are nicely lined up in YOUR FILE?** Spaces (not tabs) are used to line up these columns in these files.** They may not be perfectly lined up here in these posts.** Use your file alignment as a guide.** If you have a problem let me know.** When you finish editing (cut/paste) from this post all the columns may not line up!<<<<<<**************************Notes:Alignmen of data examples:Filename: airports.dat**********************List of airports and airport coordinates listed by ascending latitude.....,....1....,....2....,KCRP 27.770361 -97.501222IIII dd.dddddd ddd.dddddd IIII COL 1-4 ICAO code for airport dd.dddddd COL 5-14 Latitude degrees (-Lat for South) ddd.dddddd COL 15-25 Longitude degrees (-Lon for West) (Note: FAA defines airport location as the centroid of the area defined by the runway edges, and calls it the Airport Reference Point)<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Filename: wpNavAPT.txtList of runways and instrument approach data containing runway location, lenght, width, elevation and ILS/LDA course/frequency.....,....1....,....2....,....3....,....4....,....5....,....6....,....7....,....8CORPUS CHRISTI INTL KCRP13 07508130 27.776997 -97.513328110.3012900043CORPUS CHRISTI INTL KCRP17 06080173 27.779472 -97.496106000.0017300041CORPUS CHRISTI INTL KCRP31 07508310 27.762189 -97.497206110.3030900044CORPUS CHRISTI INTL KCRP35 06080353 27.762925 -97.496031109.5035200040LAMBERT-ST LOUIS INTERNAKSTL12L09003121 38.751781 -90.366294108.9012200528LAMBERT-ST LOUIS INTERNAKSTL12L09003121 38.751781 -90.366294110.1012200528NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNIIIIrrOlllllbbb dd.dddddd ddd.ddddddfff.ffccceeeee NNNN Col 1-24 Airport Name IIII Col 25-28 ICAO-code for airport rr Col 29-30 Runway Number (01-36) O Col 31 Runway Order (L C R) llllll Col 32-36 Runway Length (ft) bbb Col 37-39 Runway Bearing (mag) dd.dddddd Col 41-49 Latitude degrees (-Lat for South Col 40)ddd.dddddd Col 50-60 Longitude degrees (-Lon for West) Decimal at Col 64 fff.ff Col 61-66 ILS/LDA frequency (LOC MHz) ccc Col 67-69 LOC course (mag) eeeee Col 70-74 Runway Elevation (ft MSL) Note: The PMDG FMC will select the first record only if there is more than one record for the runway. See KSTL 12L above for example (108.90 MHz is the ILS) Note: The PMDG FMC uses the above information to setup the display, not the MSFS data. Thank you Vaughan. This is the most detailed and doable explanation that I've seen. I am off to work right now, but will start searching for these folders and files tomorrow and let you know what I find. I also forgot about starting up from the default Cessna. This looks promising. Thanks again.Bruce

OK. When I did the search for C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\fmcwp\NavData I came up with a folder named NAVDATA. In that folder was this: A folder named NAVData-Backup, A folder SIDSTARS, a globe icon that says airports, then 6 files 1)cycle_info 2)fmc_ident 3)wpNavAID 4)wpNavAPT 5)wpNavFIX 6)wpNavRTE. I just tried the globe that said airport. It was a Nero Showtime Player. What's that doing there? Cycle Info is airac 0902. fmc ident again is airac 0902. WpNavAID is the Navigraph database list. wpAPT is the Navigraph airport database list. etc, etc. I do not see a airport.datThe search for C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\PMDG\SIDSTARS revealed the SIdSTARS folder. There is a SIDSTARS folder with all the airport files. Oddly they seem to be for Airac cycle 0901 and my tech inserted VHHX data from a file from one of the forums. It's looking like we may have to start from scratch. I have not installed the new Airac cycle so maybe that will be the next step. I am still on 0902.Let me know how to proceed. I did observe that before we inserted anything that there was no airport.dat folder that we could find.Bruce

Bruce,Late edit: Always backup your files/folders prior to any edits or deletes.Go to :C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9In that folder you will see a folder:fmcwpDelete fmcwpGo to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\PMDGIn that folder you will see a folder:SIDSTARSDelete folder SIDSTARSDownload new Navigraph cycle 0904.Now install Navigraph NavData Cycle 0904Start over with the instructions for VHHX.Edit:I made an error in the instructions in original post..I edited and corrected this one.If you did original deletes let me know.

OK. I did everything that you said: deleted the FMCWP file and the SIDSTARS folder. I installed 0904 and when I open the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\FMCWP\NavData folder I have the same files that I mentioned in my last post. No airport.dat

Check to make sure that your folder options show all extensions. Maybe it is hiding system files and data files.

Dan, thanks. That helped partially. The globe icon that I mentioned in my last post where I listed the files is now labled airports.datWhen I open it I get this nero show time 3 player and a window that says Cannot play this media file. This file is either corrupt or the application does not support....
