Kai Tak IGS 13/HELP PLEASE!

Recommended Posts

Dan, thanks. That helped partially. The globe icon that I mentioned in my last post where I listed the files is now labled airports.datWhen I open it I get this nero show time 3 player and a window that says Cannot play this media file. This file is either corrupt or the application does not support....
Try:Mouse, Right click on the airports.datselect "open with"select "Notepad"

Yes!! Thanks you. Gentleman, try to understand; I have been a Mac user my whole computer life. This just isn't part of the program on a Mac. You would have to be a serious tech to dig into things this way and open system files. I've learned quite a bit in the last few days. I'll muddle along with this and I'm sure that I'll get it done by and by.BrucePSWhat the hell is this Nero Player and why is it in there hiding what I really want?

Nero player is a audio application... I got their stuff too. It's okay, good enought for my simple needs. You are muddling along just fine.. I check the 'always open with' box so the .dat files are always opened with your favorite text editor (I use UltraEdit, but notepad or wordpad are fine for simple tasks). Windows keeps a database of associations between file extensions and applications, apparently it thinks Nero is associated with .dat. Simple as that. Just change the association by checking the box.

Life has been good so far. I've gotten through all the steps up to Vaughan's VHHX.txt into the SIDSTARS folder. Where do I find the VHHX.txt file?

OK. I found one and I put it in the SIDSTARS folder, but it went to the bottom of the page; last item.Once again I panicked. I closed the window and reopened it and VHHX.txt was sequenced properly.

I now know why you initially had problems ... Mac user!No problem ... but it would be good to mention on any forum posts you do (MAC trained).Right, the new files go to bottom first, later sorted properly as you found.Keep going ... you are almost on the "curved" approach into VHHX ... you will love it!

Finally I've got what I thought was everything in. VHHX is in the database. There don't seem to be any SIDS or STARS. There is the IGS 13 with CH, GOLF, OM13, AND MM13, AND RWY 13. GREAT! No SIDS or STARS though. Here's the VHHX.txt file that I put in the SIDSTARS folder: WHERE DID IT ALL GO WRONG?// Kai Tak VHHX procedures for the PMDG series... The file you have just is the wrong one because it is not with the procedures. You need to download the correct one.You had 9Dragons installed ... which had VHHX.txt for PMDG.Do you still have the 9Dragons directory?Even when you uninstall it could have left some of the files!Otherwise ... post back here.

In the above, I see only SIDs and two IAPs (ILS31 and IGS13). If you see the arrivals then you probably didn't do anything wrong.

I uninstalled 9 Dragons but have all of it in a folder on my desktop. I'm looking. Is there another way to find it

Bruce,1. did you get it ok2. copy it to you SIDSTARS folder .. it will overwrite the bad one3. make a backup copy of it after you verify it is working4. later, if it does not fit your needs you can download a new one from another site.

I just flew my first "Checkerboard" approach to the old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong. I flew a good, stableized approach and hammered the landing. I once saw a JAL 747-400 bounce at LAX on 24R. Now I are one. Vaughan sent me a VHHX.txt that was the right one and life was good. Had I devoted the amount of time that I spent (Mac user) learning how to navigate PCs and do all required to make this work to world peace we'd all be loving each other across the globe. Thanks to everybody who helped. It was a process, but enough of this maudlin blubbering. Next is my PSS 777 and my level D 767, but not now. There is one unusual issue that I'd like to run by everybody. In real world FMC driven Boeing airplanes and my Level D 767, if on the route page you put for instance DEP: KSEA ARR: KSEA it allows you to fly in the pattern repetitively and access the DEP and ARR page to reactivate the approach as well as performing an intercept leg to the final fix. On the PMDG 747, unlike my Level D 767 when I do this I come up with only the runway on the legs page. No intermediate fixes. This is true at any airport and only if I program a route of some length do I get the full monty on the legs page when selecting an arrival. Any ideas? Thanks again. boeingflir

Bruce,Maybe better to start a new "topic/subject" post, here in the PMDG forum, for your PMDG 747 FMC question. That would keep this thread for VHHX only related posts.Happy flights at VHHX!
