Information to share...

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to share with you all something I have noticed yesterday. Maybe you already know this...Anyway, here is the point: Imagine that you have an XML gauge that you want to properly position on your panel. Imagine that for any reason, you define a negative coordinates (X or Y) so that the gauge is not fully visible on the screen. If you are in full screen mode, it works perfect, but if you are in windowed mode, the gauge just does NOT appear...If you use a C/C++ gauge instead, it always works fine. This happens with XML gauges only. I didn't test this in FSX so I can't tell how FSX reacts on this point.Eric

It works the same way in FSX (or more correctly, doesn't work)...Any negative x or y coordinate will cause an XML gauge to fail to display.

Sorry, not true as a generic statement :-)I have a panel with an XML gauge of mine (in the "main" 2D window), with x-coordinate -5.Works OK in FS9 and FSX, and both in Windowed mode and FullScreen mode.Maybe it's dependant on the absolute neg. coordinate, or the neg. coordinate in relation to the gauge size, or even in relation to the panel resolution in pixels (haven't tried all of that). But I have one example where your statement isn't true :-)Cheers, Rob

I guess it depends on the type of elements used in the gauge. My test was made with a compass that has a rotating image and a background image, a VERY simple gauge. With a Y-coordinate of -5, it doesn't show in 2D panel in windowed mode, but works fine in full screen mode.Rob, can you try with the same kind of gauge? Thanks,Eric

My system works the same as Rob's, I can get away with it. I remember working with a fella on a panel in the FS02-04 days, it was a multi-element type gauge, rotations, sliders etc.. It worked on mine with a negative placement but not on his. I run 2D only. Definitely recommended that if a gauge is released is not to go negative. It would be a benefit though to find out why it behaves differently on some systems.Roman

Hi Eric,Yes, it may very well depend on the type of XML gauge as well.I was just commenting on Bill's statement, that his statement wasn't true for at least my example (a simple text/number display gauge without rotating needle)But as Roman says, it's better to avoid neg. placements all together, because appearantly the end-result is unpredictable.Rob
