A System Change That Really Boosted FS Performance

Recommended Posts

Guest rbbarker

Lately I've been noticing a bit of slow-down in FS performance and today it got really bad. I run XP and checked my active processes (Ctrl-Alt-Del then Processes tab) and found that something called CTHelper.exe was drawing roughly 98% of my CPU activity. No wonder everything was crawling. I did a bit of research and found that CTHelper.exe is related to Creative and its audio drivers. I went typed 'msconfig' in the 'Run' option under the start menu, went to 'Startup' and unchecked CTHelper.exe. Whammo, things are smokin again. Please use caution when making any changes like these, but this one's easy to undo if you need to. You might want to check what's drawing your CPU power and see if you have that little CTHelper.exe booger running. Maybe you're better off without it.
