ATC and Stars

Now here is the thing every time i fly i use a sid and star everything goes fine with the sid but when it comes to the star ATC steers me away from it from a far distance and then it does not follow the Speed restrictions. If ATC always takes you out of your star then what is the use of using one :( ?
