747 Winglets

Recommended Posts

Hey,Just a quick question for anyone that knows. I know that there is an option remove and add the winglets on the 747. My question is this : When you apply the winglets, is it modeled to cut down on the induced drag thus increasing fuel efficiency ? I could do a test, but figured I would get a quicker response here. Thanks Boys,Blake

You are correct. Simply stated winglets prevent the air flowing under the wing (higher pressure) from flowing over the end of the wing to join the air flowing over the wing (lower pressure) therefore reducing vortices and induced drag.JoeMNY

Thanks, I know exactly what induced drag is, and how it is created. I just was wondering if PMDG modeled their winglets for perfomance enhancing. Meh, still makes the birds look pretty though.Blake
