Ditch in Water

Recommended Posts

Any effect, or crash effects, that lets us crash land in water and break up, but not display the "crash" thing at the top, anything that lets us do this, already got crash settings off but can we by any chance get something that lets us ditch the plane in water?

Technically it is possible to make an aircraft for FS which will do it, but it involves a bit of faffing about. Basically you need to fool FS into thinking the aircraft is a flying boat or seaplane. Since the visual model is not related to the flight model or the aircraft's systems, you could make a 747 or whatever that had 'unseen' floats or a flying boat hull as part of the configuration file, which would then allow it to 'ditch' i.e it would be landing on the floats which you've told FS it has, but it would look like it was ditching because the visible model does not have anything which looks like floats.Effectively it would mean the aircraft had similar behaviour to the Cessna Caravan amphibian, i.e. it has floats but it also has wheels, and if you don't put the wheels down, it lands on its floats. Whether anyone could be bothered doing all that just on the offchance that somebody wanted to ditch their model is another matter though, so I guess you'd be looking at doing it yourself.Al

WOW, thx for the reply, nice logic. Just one issue, as always.....how do you do it and make the aircraft break up..........PS: If you do emergency land, is there a software which adds inflatable slides and possibly passengers coming out of the plane. And is there a way to land on a runway (emergency landing) and have the nose gear still up and the planes nose then scraping to a stop on the runway?

1) Heh, that would have something to do with aircraft modelling. You would have to model each part of the aircraft which has to break up.http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=122 <- good place to start2) That would be scenery design, while moving passengers would be probably too much to design and too unrealistic. As you would need, what, moving legs, bodies etc? And that for what, 100 people? Good luck ;)http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=1233) Well, lol, first you need to model the aicraft where front gear doesn't go down (through failure or so)... I believe some paywares can do it - though I think what happens is that gear in general doesn't go down. Maybe I am wrong. I am pretty sure that is possible. I don't know of a way though.I know this wasn't really helpful, but at least some ideas.

You really don't like normal landings do you? :( As far as belly landing and things like that are concerned, there are a few ways to do it. FS will allow you to set up failures, and quite a few add-on aircraft can emulate fairly sophisticated failures too, so the gear not coming down, or part of it being jammed, is definitely something that can be done. There are utilities which can do it too, for example, two payware products I reviewed recently for Avsim can both cause nose gear failures, one being Multi Crew Experience, which has a random failure option that includes all kinds of stuff going wrong, including very awkward gear failures such as both main gears failing but the nose wheel coming down. That add-on works for both FSX and FS9.The other payware product being the Aviation and Mission add-on for the FSX version of the Wilco/FeelThere PIC Boeing 737, which has a specific mission in it where the nose gear fails to lower and you have to land at Princess Juliana International Airport with no nose gear, and that is tricky because it is a short runway and tricky to land at anyway, even when everything is working on your aircraft - the first time I tried it I overran the end of the runway and crashed into a lagoon, and the second time I did it, I nearly hit one of the emergency vehicles that was at the side of the runway waiting to assist LOL. Note that you need both FSX and the Wilco PIC 737 for that add-on though, it won't work in FS9.As Word Not Allowed notes, all of the other stuff is at least technically possible in FS, but you'd be talking about a serious amount of fairly arduous modeling to pull it off, for example, there are animation capabilities in FSX and FS9 for models, and you can tie any animation you can create to any event you like as long as you name the parts correctly, so, you could name a part 'landing gear' and FS would play the animation when you pressed G, but the part you animate could of course be anything you like, such as an emergency slide deploying or some such. A lot of developers use the 'wing fold' animation that FS has, and instead assign that to specialised animations; another favourite to use it the 'concorde nose visor lowering' assignment. Both of those are okay to use on a lot of aircraft for other fancy stuff, since few aircraft have a lowerable nose or folding wings. For more info on doing all that kind of thing, read the notes in the FS Scenery Development Kit, which will tell you about how to do all that sort of thing, but be prepared to do a lot of reading and some serious 3D modeling. If you are not great at modeling, I'd recommend getting hold of Abacus' FS Design Studio, which is a nice, powerful, yet easy to use 3D modeling package specifically for making things for FS such as aircraft and scenery. You can make anything you like in it, for example, I made this Land Rover just last night with FSDS:landypic.jpgAl

The "Wings of Power" aircraft, such as the bombers and warbirds like the P51, simulate crash landings spewing sparks and smoke with damage shown to the props. I've never tried it on purpose, but forgot to extend the gear. Same effect on water, I believe, as I like to skim the water, and a couple of times, got too low.Jim D.

Here is my offering of a couple of Lincoln-headed tokens on this subject..."Ditching" an aircraft in FS is not as far-fetched as it may sound. Consider this... Many wannabe, student and real pilots utilize FS as a training "tool." "Ditching" is one regime of emergency flight that must be taken into account when learning how to pilot an aircraft, since one never knows? The ability to model "ditching" accurately allows "practice" of the routines that are required to successfully (as in "not die") set down an aircraft on water as gracefully as possible. Please note, I am not commenting on the convenience of adding "ditching" to the flight model. I am stating that *if* "ditching" was a feature successfully modeled, it would not be wasted nor unappreciated. Given that random failures can be added to the "mix" in FS and many approaches occur over water, "ditching" is a significant possibility that needs to be considered. It could also notch up the "suspension of disbelief." Personally, I have two local airports that involve flying over water that I use as "home base." One requires a descent on long final over the length of a lake (3 to 5 miles, depending on wind) and the other requires most of the downwind and all of base and final be flown over water on half the approaches! Any loss of power after turning to base is a guaranteed bath since even the part of land one might glide to is too heavily wooded to offer any opportunity!

Just tested ....Interesting modification of the contact points of the IFDG 320 (introducing floats)It's even better if you inactive the fore and aft scrape points of the fuselage .. with those inactives you remove the non-ending small splashes fore and aft the fuse .... I used Aircraft Container Manager for made the modifs.Regards.bye.gif
