Stutters in Glider missions

Recommended Posts

I get heavy stutters during glider missions. The FPS drops from around 25 to around 10 and back. Its unflyable. (Free flights are good) What is causing this? Also where is the section on bufferpools in fsx.cfg that might help with stutters? I couldn't find it anywhere. Is this something we add to the cfg file ourselves?i 920 at stock speedZalman 9900LEDEVGA X58 Sli6MB of OCZ triple Channel 1600 memoryBFG GTX 275NZXT Tempest case Vista 64Resolution of Monitor 1920* 1200

Are you using unlimited or a very high framerate target? On my modest system (yours seems to be very capable), if I set my framerate to unlimited I get wild jumps in the FPS that causes stutters. If I limit it to 20 everything smooths out nicely. Don't know if this is the case, but worth a look at.Thaellar

No I am not. What I don't understand is why it only happens in the soaring/gliding missions. Never during free flight.

That's wierd, normally the glider is smooth to fly. I would try the usual drill, make sure all of your drivers are up to date, and defrag your FSX drive. Make sure you have enough hard drive space, you know, the basics. From what I know, the glider Missions call on some extra audio, and there's one point where a screenshot is automatically taken. There's also a countdown timer. On the plus side, there's not loads of traffic and the scenery isn't hard on the system. All I can think of is that the audio is somehow affecting your Mission, that or there's some problem in calling up a Mission trigger. Now that I think about it glider Missions also have ridge lift, which you don't see in free flight. Maybe that's the issue? I am only guessing, not at all sure.Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM

I just built the system last weekend. So I am not sure if it is due to lack of hard drive space. I did turn off the sound (Q) and no change. However I believe you are on to something when you mention the ridge lift. The stutter is a lot worse when I enter the visually placed thermals. But what is the cause and remedy?

Dang if I know. If it's the actual visualization, you can change that in Weather options, I think. You can go from psychedelic spirals to birds to nothing. I don't recall if ridge lift gets a special visual, but I don't think so. There's a custom visual you can get for the SDK for placing ridge lifts in a mission which is helpful, because the SDK manual is full of errors on that topic. However, you'd never see that graphic (a red and green checkerboard) during Mission flight. Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerAVSIM
