Radar Altimiter

Recommended Posts

Using the Kittyhawk 737-700 with SkyDecks Panel. On appproach with full ILs, or not, the GPWS starts going off. I looked at the PFD qand saw that my radar alt reading was over 400' lower than actualaltimiter on the PFD.Had same results at Three different airports.Sad to say that I had already deleted the PDF file for the panel and also attempted to get one from the panel site, but appearsthat when you make the purchase the pdf is embedded within the exe file somewhere.I looked at the cfg file, but saw nothing on the radar altimiter or it's values.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks,irish3

Apples and Oranges again. The altitude reported on the PFD is relative to SEA LEVEL.The altitude reported by the radar altimeter is relative the the GROUND.The difference between the two readings will always be approximately* the altitude of the airport! The only time the two instruments will be roughly the same will be when you are at an airport at sea level...*Note: the reason it is only approximate is because the radar altimeter will read +x feet even with the aircraft parked at the ramp, "x" being the distance from the ground to the radar antenna!

I know or at least thought I understood about the sea level/ground varience. I guess I wasn't clear enoughin my quest.....ie how can I prevent the GPWS from going off, or is it just a quirk with this acft, as none of the others Ifly have this problem...same panel is used throughout. BTW, Hammond IN.....I grew up in Whiting...small world eh.irish3
