LIBRARY IS STILL DOWN

Recommended Posts

Dear All There is a huge problem for AVSIM to have a library down message on the library page as the server that host the page and library is currently down due to the reconstruction of the library.Hopefully will get a message up on the front page sometime soon.
Tom, thank you for the update on that. I personally would vote for you guys not to bother with a "Library Down" message if it slows you down one minute from the ultimate task of getting the library up and running. I'm hoping at this point that it would be more or less superfluous. Are we still that far from even loading up the new servers?

in order to keep all these newbies from reporting that the file library is down, why doesnt Avsim simply modify the html on the main page and remove the file library link completely until it comes back up?Sam

OMG, I laughed so hard at the video I freaked my cat out. He still won't approach me, even just to get around me to get his food. I had to relocate his litterbox just so he'd keep using it. This has been a long time coming, ever since the "digital dork gave the site a kevork".I hereby nominate the video's creator as Minister of Humourous Affairs for Avsim!

*Gulps and looks at the desiccated, smouldering shell of a corpse next to him* Agh, that could've been me... :(

Thanks for the tip. I have implemented that.

Tom, I noticed in your system specs you mention caffiene. Have you started mainlining it yet, to get you through this process of bring back the file library? :(

The answer to that question also lies in my system specs... Note the reference to one good nerve. I will let your imagination run with that one for a while. As for the caffeine, my colleagues at my real world job would tell you that they would not know me without a cup of coffee in my hand. In fact, come to think of it, most won't meet with me unless I do have a cup of coffee in hand (that probably has something to do with my one good nerve)! :(

Is it me, or is CaptainDom banned? It says so to the left of his post, that's why I remarked as I did. Seems kind of strange to ban someone and then use their advice.

A bit more transparency would go a long way, especially to those who donated money.
This is especially true since it did not take AVSIM very long to get the commercial operations going again, I wonder how many donated dollars it took to get the income generating side up and running?I know I expected any donations made to be applied to the "community" activities of the organisation, such as the freeware library rather than getting sales and reviews of commerical systems (which coincidentally are in the online shop) up and running. I am also interested to know how much of the donated dollars is being spent on flying people around to board meetings and other places.Just stop and think before you try and flame me, or call me names etc. AVSIM is a commercial business that has accepted public donations, and it is required to account for expenditure of said donations.OK Flame suit on.

Of course it will.See what it's done to THIS poor chap!!(But don't open it while you have young kids with you).
:( :( Please lighten up a bit Satan and take a look at this! The very last thing most of us want is seeing Tom and his crew throwing in the towel because of unwarranted and, IMO, misinformed comments like yours. Who really cares what he does with the few dollars he gets in donations.

I know the feeling Tom. My nickname at work is "Coffee Cup," and is well earned. :(

And a flame you get, albeit as civilised as possible. Is this what it comes down to? Libelious ridicule and using our donations for information leverage? Is this the new facade of desperation? Stop and think a moment: we're all eager to get back into the file libraries, myself not being the least of us, but what good is it going to do requesting these constant "state of the site addresses"? These people have better things to do...namely, get the library back up to snuff quickly as monetarily, technologically and humanly possible, partly because they don't want to hear the bickering anymore. They can't just break off to respond to every information request, whether the requestor made a donation or not. Let them do their job without interruption.Earlier, some wise chap here posted that he was trying to fix an airplane for his employer, who was making calls every hour or so. To respond to these calls required walking several hundred feet to the telephone and back. Then he had to go back, regroup, get back on track, and once back in the groove...another desperate call from the boss for info. Bear in mind, this was in the days before cellphones. If I was that mechanic, I would've walked away and told the guy to fix it himself. They don't pay enough to merit that kind of servitude. The only credit I can assign to you in this flame is that at least you didn't drop a number regarding your donation, and personally, I'd rather you kept that information to yourself. You also realise that we're dealing with multi-terabytes of information, right? It's not easy to scan every file for viruses, integrity and then categorise/collate them to a semblance of how they once were. Bear in mind that both the main library and the backup were attacked. We're lucky it wasn't all summarily erased. If so, an average person would've thrown in the towel and walked off. But then again, it'd end these endless, pedestrian questions of "When will the library be back up?", wouldn't it?Avsim is a corporation, yes...but since when did donations equal shareholding? I wouldn't be surprised if they eliminated this File Library subforum altogether, because all people are doing is complaining, and some of them are trying to muscle in. God bless our Almighty Media for coddling and conditioning us into our current attitude of entitlement.

Chairborne, I have to say I am getting sick of reading your rants on this forum. Your attacks on other forum users are wearing thin with me (and many others that I know of). Since when did you become the voice of AVSIM, officially or otherwise? That's how your messages come across whether you want to believe it or not. I've been around on AVSIM a lot longer than you but don't take it upon myself to be their megaphone. AVSIM have not responded to the post by satan388 yet, so lets wait and see if they do so. If they don't, read into it what you will. Until then, I think you'd be better off keeping your mouth shut and confining your comments to topics that you actually have the knowledge and authority to comment on. The way AVSIM is run is not one of those topics. Lets just let AVSIM staff get on with their job without these childish distractions, okay?

My god !Why does every post on this topic should end in aggressiveness and quarrels. I thought I would find here people acting in a civilized way and is forced to observe that it's no different from others forums on any site. This new topic on the library was essentially to have a good laugh on a very witty "pastiche" (don't know the english word for it and too tired to go to my Harraps) and here the purpose has been totally transformed into a quarrel on the library issue and its reinstallation! The Guys told us they could not give a precise date! That's it comment closed!answers given!Well in the meantime consult other sites if it is so life threatening and traumatising not to get what you want from AVSIMI would suggest too to take a rendez vous with a shrink because to arrive to such a state of mind on a hobby is seriously alarming!May be some guys here are professionnals of the airline industry or transportation, but probably not a majority so for the seconds IT'S A GAME!IT'S A WAY TO HAVE A GOOD TIME! WE WONT GET A LICENSE TO PILOT A PRIVATE OR CIVIL PLANE HERE!Otherwise poor passengers, they should take cyanure before boarding, the result would be the same and quicker!THIS IS A MEL BRROOKS AIRLINE SCHOOl OF PILOTING!LMAO.gif NOT A REAL TRAINING CENTER OF AIR FRANCE OR AMERICAN AIRLINES.....So Enjoy the sun, Here in Paris is a beautiful today, take a flight from your country to Paris and go around Vaux le Vicomte, Versailles, or the Loire Castles or may be over the gorgeous Alps the summits of Europe and RELAX!!!!! :( :( :( Claude
