Better FPS at 16 bit vs 32 color

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hello all,When I try to run FS2002 in 16 bit mode, I get corruption of the 2D panel. It seems to dissolve into a pitted display. This does not happen in 32 bit color mode. The trouble (if you can call it that...) is that when I run in 16 bit mode, I can pick up 3-5 FPS better performance over 32 bit modeDoes anybody have a guess as to why the 2D panels corrupt?I tried running the desktop also at 16 bit to see if that was the problem. Nope... whether I run the desktop at 16 or 32 bit, the same happens?Any comments and/or suggestions, gang? Thanks in advance,Cheers!Mitch R.

The only time I get the discoloration is if 1-fsaa in used2-16 bit is used3-the outside view window is not full screen (doesn't happen in the Bell206)4-text is on screenIf I eliminate any one the four conditions the panel is ok.You can also try dragging each side of the panel in just slightly (left, right, and the bottom and top on some panels) until the smearing goes away. I also have the same problem. The Flight1 Meridian they told me to run at 16bit but like you I get discolored panels so I just upgraded the entire system. It would be nice to find out what causes that.Sean

>Only a guess here, but maybe you should update your video card>drivers...>>sherm>IN fact, it was a driver update that caused this problem for me. I was using old drivers when I first installed FS2002 - they were the original drivers that came with my Geforce2MX card. I did not have this problem until I updated the drivers to the latest available about 12 months ago and I have had the problem ever since. It IS quite a serious problem for me because losing 3-5 FPS on my P3/1000 system is quite a loss.I still have the old drivers - so maybe I should try going back to them.Barry

So, I am not sure wht you mean by "dragging the panel to a smaller size" as this can't be done in full screen mode.Any further advice would be much appreciated.Barry

If you are only picking up 3-5 frames then I would suggest staying with the 32bit and lowering the ATC traffic or some other detail in FS. You can pick up 3-5 frames easily without loosing quality in the rendering by lessening the details or activities going on...

Mitch:Is this a pinky coloured effect over the panel? With some cards/drivers you get this with 16 bit mode and it is triggered by the red information text messages like the brake on or FPS indicators. If it it this effect, left mouse clicking on an inactive part of the panel will clear the mess until the next bit of red text appears! You can disable *all* red text messages by adding the following line to the MAIN section of your fs2002.cfg file:HideInfoText=1Works for me (specs below) but your problem may be something else...Cheers, John.4m NW of EGHI (Southampton UK)FS2002 Standard on Intel PIII 733 MHz, 256MB with 32M GeForce2MX graphics and Windows ME

Some time ago I had the pinky colored effect in the panel when running in 16 bit mode. At that time, the difference between 16 bit and 32 bit was like a 15% improvement in FPS using 16 bit mode, but I always had that pink stuff messing the panels. Then, playing with the video card settings I managed to solve the problem and gain more than 100% FPS improvement. This is what I did:- In the driver setting screen, go to the OpenGL Settings- CHECK the box "Disable support for enhanced CPU instruction sets"That
