That is how it -used to work- for me too. No Go here.{and YES I have made exceptions in Windows Firewall for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer too}I just get the screens I've mentioned above and this one: The connection has timed outThe server at library.avsim.net is taking too long to respond. * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.UPDATE:Just to show that I'm really trying but not successfully, here this is what I just did.I just added a change to the Exception Rules of Windows Firewall by doing this:Click Control Panel>Windows Firewall>ExceptionsScroll down the list to Mozilla Firefox Click the EDIT button on the Add Program Add Port EDIT Delete Menu underneathA box will pop up with your Firefox connection information with the following: You can allow communication with this program from any computer, including those on the Internetor just from computers on your network.Program name and location under that.CLICK on the CHANGE SCOPE button. Now click on the "CUSTOM LIST" button.Add in the new AVSIM Library addressadd205.252.249.50Click OK.Close and Get out of this screen and Windows Firewall.Close your Internet connection.Restart your connection.Go back to AVSIM LibraryTry to download any file .No dice..I'm really trying to understand what is up, but I've done as much as I can really do.

FTP service was down earlier but is now fixed. Should be working again as of 630am EST was when it was fixed. (or there abouts)

That must be for someone else, as I'm not using the FTP service. I'm struggling with the HTTP version to download with and still hoping for an answer on this matter since yesterday.I've tried everything I can possibly do to download anything from the library using the HTTP version and nothing is workingfor me.

Here is the logging I just took with Windows Firewall to show the connection path as I'm attempting to download a file from AVSIM's library only 2 minutes ago. If there is anyone who can decypher this, it would really help: #Version: 1.5#Software: Microsoft Windows Firewall#Time Format: Local#Fields: date time action protocol src-ip dst-ip src-port dst-port size tcpflags tcpsyn tcpack tcpwin icmptype icmpcode info path2009-07-28 23:40:22 DROP UDP 169.254.52.202 239.255.255.250 3352 1900 161 - I'm trying the downloads via Chrome. Having already heard that Chrome doesn't support ftp, I refreshed the page after getting the no webpage found. It works for me!

John,Can you check your connectivity settings, and make sure that there is nothing which might be attempting to proxy FTP connections?Your firewall log doesn't even show you initiating a connection with the Library FTP server (you only ever communicate with us via HTTP) so it is definitely something at your end.Matt

John,Can you check your connectivity settings, and make sure that there is nothing which might be attempting to proxy FTP connections?Your firewall log doesn't even show you initiating a connection with the Library FTP server (you only ever communicate with us via HTTP) so it is definitely something at your end.Matt
Precisely. I'm trying to connect via HTTP like I used to without any problems before and continue to with other sites like Flightsim.Com, etc.I'm going to try and have a go with the FTP software plugin I have with Firefox 3.5.1 now and see what happens. That said, I'm truly baffled by the effort that this seems to be turning into. Which "connectivity settings" are we talking about here? I use a PPPoE Broadband internet connection, the settings are for Enabling LCP extensions and Enabling Software compression. Security Options are for "Typical". Firefox settings say "NO proxy" connection to the internet.I need specifics to be looking at in my Internet connections. Okay. Fine. But where? That's the frustrating thing to me in this find and seek mission I've been trying my best to be patient and understanding about. I'm in no position to be looking at an idea here or there thrown in. I need something specific. I can connect to the internet just fine, can write on this forum just fine, can access Avsim's web page just fine. The problem is connection to AVSIM's download server. I can view the library just fine. I just can't download from it. My question, to be more blunt is, is this perhaps part of the phased in access to the library and that is what is at the heart of this problem of downloading from the AVSIM library? Is my ISP on a download server block list? I'm quite hesitant to go in and start fiddling with my own Internet connection settings here as its been just fine as is. Everything else works just fine.I'm willing to give things a try but I need a specific thing to be looking at trying. There does appear to be spotty issues with this from several users on this thread, not just me. I'm more than willing to wait a few days to see this sussed out, but I'd really like to have much more precise info in the areas I need to focus in on my end before doing something here that genuinely screws up my internet connection. Yours PatientlyJohn

After doing every possible configuration with Windows Firewall and my connectivity settings, TracerT finally gave me the answer I've been waiting for:Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

Is anyone from the AVSIM Library staff going to follow up on what I've posted here?I've been in touch with HiNet this afternoon and they did a tracer to the Library.Avsim.Net address and they tried three different means to check for functionality. -First attempt was from their Enterprise/Intranet system...No response/Connection Timed Out..-Second was using a straight ADSL connection using the DOS CMD TracerT and they got a response.-Third was using the standard Web Browser and got No response/Connection Timed Out..I asked if this is the fault of my Windows Firewall and he said no. He could only get a response once out of three times.I would truly appreciate some kind of response to this matter, in private if need be, at least acknowledging this problem I've encountered andif it's being looked at. I've done everything possible to check/adjust/troubleshoot my connectivity and all is fine and correct here. I can access the internet just fine. I will have to say that the non-response to the most recent notes I've posted above is disappointing and hope that at least some-one is looking at what I'm encountering. I truly enjoyed AVSIM's library and hope I can use it again in the near future. Please help me with this.

Ok, I *did* have the problem of no tracert or connection, but I just found out on my system it was down to PeerGuardian having the IP range used by AVSIM on one of it's block lists, so that's something worth checking out for others.Mark

THANK YOU MARK! That DID IT! Folks..if you are having download problems like I did, just disable PeerGuardian while using the library here. Same goes if you are trying to use the library at Simviation.Com {noticed the same problem there too}.I tried adding AVSIM's IP and the router address for "The Beyond the America, INC" server {63.218.50.121} to the Permanent ALLOW list but that didn't seem to work, so just turning off PeerGuardian for this session WORKED!I notice the same problem with Simviation.Com's library and now I can download from there too. Whomever does these block lists for Peerguardian needs to get informed that AVSIM and SIMVIATION should not be blocked. I use PeerGuardian and it's very good, but sometimes a bit "too good".THANKS so much! Now I can go about some downloading.

Note...When you add in the IP address for AVSIM and the Router for "The Beyond America, Inc" above in Peer Guardian..be sure to turn off and then restart your browser {in my case Firefox 3.5.1} and you should be able to resume downloading from AVSIM's library. I did that and was able to download with PeerGuardian ACTIVE with these new settings.I have yet to make these same adjustments for the Simviation library and servers they use and that is forthcoming.
