June 5, 200323 yr Hello, after buying Piper Archer II from Flight1 I obsessively flying it. Now I what to upgrade her with some modern avionics, a GPS, but what type of GPS could be fitted in the real ArcherII? A Garmin GNS530, 430? because I have a freeware version from FSavionics of both models, and how do they compaired with the version from reality XP? thanks
June 5, 200323 yr I think it usually depends on how much panel space the plane has. In real life, I would assume thats mostly just a financial barrier, as the GNS530 would replace 2 or 3 radios out of the stack, so taking those 2 or 3 would free up the space in the stack needed for the GNS, you know? They arent cheap though, so I think that, in real life, its mostly dependant on if the pilot has the money to invest rather than if he has the panel space.
June 5, 200323 yr Author Yes those darned things are expensive. I have flown an Archer whose owner decided to shell out $15,000+ for the Garmin 430 installed. It was sweet.I haven't played with either one of the sim versions, but I did download the trainer from the Garmin site so that I could figure out how to use the one in the Archer. But pretty much any aftermarket GPS can be found in an Archer.Cheers :)Woodreau / KMVL
