August 10, 200916 yr So you saddled the shiny 975...strewn other ornaments...NOW WHAT?Frankenstein needs a BRAIN and a PUSH........So you insert the CD, be it XP, VISTA or WIN7.......how did it go? Smooth sailing with the first try......or MORE? I, and many others, would love to hear all sorts of anecdotes about the instant success or the repeated trials and errors of installing a BRAND NEW TOY. I know all of us have experienced that on numerous occasions.Love to hear from you ALL..........do not spare the DETAILS.Thanks.Abe
August 10, 200916 yr I recently picked up a Gigabyte P45 board and a Q9550 with the intention of o/c'ing to 4GHz.2 trips to the BIOS with a total of 30 seconds spent there yielded success. I'd regale you with further details but only have a short amount of time before I must head off to work.

August 11, 200916 yr Thanks. Essentially I was wondering when you installed Windows with all the NEW HARDWARE installed, there was no shock? New Drivers etc....? Windows found what was needed? Did Windows downoad updates for the motherboard etc..........I know that you would have used the CD that came with the motherboard, was that enough? I am glad that you had no problem......I am hoping that when I get my new system, I'll sail smoothly also. Thanks again.AbeThe Windows 7 RC already has the X58 chipset drivers; with Windows XP and Vista I just downloaded the latest off of Intel
August 11, 200916 yr Did my i7 build by the book, enjoying opening every box with its brand new component safely packed in it like a boy on Christmas morn, making sure all the power connectors were seated properly, VC seated, ram seated, CPU in the socket, ect ect. Routed all wires with the skill of an engineer on the space shuttle. Hit the power button and nothing, nothing at all I say! Well it was at that point I was glad I gave the wife some money to take the kids out for dinner and a movie. Words I never thought I would say outloud began spewing from my mouth like a river overflowing after a hard rain. After regrouping and calming down I began wondering where I went wrong. Was the MotherBoard DOA, was it the PSU....... PSU..... PSU.... Yes, yes it was the PSU. It is good practice to actually turn on the main toggle switch on the back of the PSU cuz if you dont ya aint got nothin but a 2000.00 paper weight. :( Jim Wenham
