Flight Director, what is its use?

This is actually a very important piece of equipment.It tells pilot how to manually steer aircraft - say during an ILS approach. Obviously the easiest flying is done with AP engaged. But the second easiest thing if you want to fly manually is to follow the FD guidance, it is much easier than following the raw input.You can fly manually difficult ILS approaches with relative ease.Michael J.

thx,good information there,i use the default 737 panel sometimes, do you think it has a good FD?but i must confess, since playing flightsim from the FS98 days, i have never ever used as a guide the FD ever when doing landings, most of my landings have been ILS approaches since FS98, and i tell you i have done many many landings ...:-lol

well, if you fly with AP on most of the time then you won't need FD. But if one flies manually a lot (like professional pilots do) then FD is a very important tool to make flying easier.Yes, most of default airplanes in FS2002 have OK FD.Michael J.

The FD (Flight Director) will show you exactly how your aircraft will be flown by the autopilot. Once the autopilot master switch is engaged, the aircraft will be "slaved" to the Flight Director. In short, it is an indecation how the autopilot flyes the aircraft.
