CTD in Caribbean, No error message

Recommended Posts

Hi, I recently have not been able to load a flights in the Caribbean. Other areas seem fine. I have not added any software in the area recently since I have successfully flown there last.I do have Fly Tampa's TNCM, Imagine Sim's TJSJ, AES and various other scenery that has been installed for some time. Other Imagine Sim, Fly Tampa and AES Scenery load just fine. The last change I made was installing AES 2.03 and FSDT's KFLL - both add ons seem to be running fine. The crash happens after you press fly - at 15% when loading a flight at TNCM, TISX or TJSJ (those are the airports I tested), it reverts to the desk top with no error message. I checked the event viewer and it doesn't list a dll or a program, bgl...I ran Filemon to see what the last file was before it crashed - they are terrain files but not the same file. It is a different one every time. I checked my scenery.cfg - all is well there.Below is what is the what is in the even viewer. Any ideas where I should start looking for a fix? I do have a lot of AI. I haven't changed any of it in quite a while. I originally didn't consider ai because of when the CTD was occurring - during terrain loading. I'll take out the ai and see what happens. Thanks.edit: removing ai didn't do the trick.

Is there any quick way to figure out how FS has the world divided up in to regions? Maybe an old post somewhere? I'd like to be sure it is just an issue in the Caribbean and not some larger issue.

You said that you updated AES recently. Can you turn that off and give it a try?Joe

Is there a way to turn it off without uninstalling? I don't see an option in AES Help. I would ask in their forums but I have never been able to join. Activation emails always get lost and they don't respond to emails. I have been to other AES airports and they are fine and I did reinstall the latest update to see if that was the issue.SEA, on the other hand is also not loading so it is not isolated to the Caribbean. This has to be something really major, really hard to find or something really silly.Argh! It is nice how fast FS loads with out all of that ai though.

Isn't there just a scenery.cfg entry, (or 2), for AES? If there is, you could just deactivate them. Also, check to see if there are any modules that look like they'd belong to AES. Sorry I can't be of more help, I've never had my own install of AES and am going from memory of my pal's system.Mark

Two things I would try:1. If you have any add-on terrain mesh, temporarily disable it in the Scenery Library. Badly compiled terrain files can cause major problems. Be mindful that smaller sceneries may have the add-on mesh file in with everything else. I would be mistrustful of any recently added scenery, even that miles away from your problem.2. Try backing up, then deleting your FS9.cfg file, which will start FS up with a clean, fresh FS9.cfg. Obviously you can reinstate the original file if this doesn't fix anything.Hope this helps,John

Thanks again for the help. Here is what I have tried. So far nothing works.Removed all ai aircraft and traffic bglsLoaded new video drivers (shot in the dark here)Restored scenery.cfg to default (this got SEA working again so it appears that the problems were different)Went through the scenery folder and took non default items including mesh and filed from TNCMUninstalled FSG Mesh and other known meshDeleted the FS9.cfgFS still won't load TNCM, TJSJ or TISX. I'm assuming that it won't load other Caribbean airports as well. At around 15%, CTD with no error message and no usable information in the event log.If anyone has any other ideas, I would really appreciate them. I was planning on building a new rig in about 6-8 weeks and switching over to FSX. If I can't get this running again, I doubt I be able to put in the time to reinstall FS9 just to uninstall it again in a few weeks.

Have you looked at what's in your "Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Name\Scenery" folder? I know that there is some contention depending on what has been installed in the past for a number of the bgls in there. FlyTampa, FranceVFR, and others. The original files are dated 5/31/2003 and will have another date if they have been replaced. If you want to replace what you currently have with the original files listed below, they are on Disk3 in MSGAME8.CAB of the original FS9 disks. Thanks for the info. It is a strange problem and I usually can overcome these types of things. I have a ton of add ons and I have added very little over the past few months. I fly in the Caribbean frequently and this problem really came out of nowhere on a 2 year old FS install. SE Asia is also pretty hosed up but that is from another problem. If I was going to stick with FS9, I'd do a complete reinstall but since I am upgrading my rig in a few months (after Windows 7), I have moved back to FSX to keep me busy. I can't fly at major airports in FSX but I can tool around the Caribbean just fine. The performance at Imagine Sim's TJSJ and FT's TNCM is workable.I was actually surprised how much scenery for FSX I already own. Most of the scenery I have bought over the past 2 years included FSX upgrades. ASA was automatically installed in FSX as well.
