We need a new panel !

Hi,FS2002 has matured into a wonderful product, FS2004 is about to be released and yet, we're still stuck with the ugly C-172 panel...Most of my "real-world" flying is performed aboard a C-172 (like 90% of the GA pilots I imagine...)Thanks to Real Air Simulations, we now have a wonderful flight model (much better than the original one) for free.Still, the default MS panel for the C-172 is so unrealistic - with a cartoonish appearance and awful graphics...Since the cessna 172 is such a popular aircraft, it would be wonderful to get a proper panel for it - something that would have the quality of the products released by the leading designers (Captain Sim, Dreamfleet, FSD, Real Air Simulations, etc...)Any volunteer ?

I think there is one available that requires you have the DF Cardinal (which I don't) It looks pretty nice though.BlairCYOW

Hi,I do have the DF Cardinal - the panel is excellent - I don't like the false veneer (bad taste...)though...:) Could you provide some details on this Cardinal-based alternative panel for the C-172 ?CheersTwister

Actually, in my opinion, I find the default cessna panels fantastic. They conform very close the actual aircraft, espcially the 182, that combined with the available freeware air files makes them a real keeper. I use them often (yes, I do have the DF archer and 177 also).

Thanks for the link - I checked it out but found the gauges totally similar to the default ones (which I personally don't like)Granted, the radio stacks look better.Still searching for something that would make me "feel at home"...

Twister,Exactly a week ago on the screen shot forum I posted some pictures of a Cessna 172SP panel I put together for my personal use. Please look for a message with the titel: "Screen shots of personal Cessna 172SP"Attached three more screen shots showing an onboard GPS (optional). You can even enlarge the GPS with one mouse click. If you need help getting this panel, I am more than willing to help you and send you my modified panel bitmaps and modified gauges, but you do have to own the Dreamfleet/Flight One Cessna 177 Cardinal and Carenado's Cessna 172N. For obvious copyright reasons I neither can nor want to upload the panel I put together. As I already stated in the other thread, I used among other things:Carenado's Cessna 172N (payware, $5 only),DreamFleet/Flight One Cessna 177 Cardinal (payware),Dreamfleet200 Cessna 172 (freeware at Flightsim.com),RealAir Simulation flight model for a 172SP,Chuck Grimes 172SP panel (used part of his bitmaps),and I would like to thank these authors for making it possible to put together my favorite personal airplane.Best regards,Henrihttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/17084.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/17085.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/17086.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/17087.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/17088.jpg

Hi, the thread below covers "our" panel...Available at www.flightsim.com (avsim rejected the file for unknown reasons).http://mitglied.lycos.de/simdream/172/172_1_small.JPGhttp://mitglied.lycos.de/simdream/172/172_4_small.JPGhttp://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search@HenriI omitted the original lower view because of the continuously spinning trim wheels, how did you fix that?I like some of the ideas a lot, could you send me your work to urademacher@t-online.de ?Best Regards, Uwehttp://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc...-betatester.jpg

>to be released and yet, we're still stuck with the ugly C-172>panel...I agree, very ugly. Graphically or from a purely esthetical point of view it is simply a monstrosity. If someone wants to see how a simple 2D 172 panel could look like, with no need to resort to eye candy like simulated leather or upholstery fabric - look at the Elite panel. Crisp, pure functionality, a feast for one's eyes. What they give us in FS is work of a 10-year old. But most of in-box panels are like this. Thanks God for Reality-XP or Flight1's productions.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg

Hi Uwe,Of course, I have seen your version as well. A lot of parallel processing has been going on obviously. I fixed the vertical trim wheel by using one of another panel (works great) and I modified and adjusted the horizontal trim wheel (works great as well). Furthermore, all of the switches and most of the gauges on the lower panel work too. What file size can I send to your e-mail address? Do you have cable or ADSL?Best regards,Henrihttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg

Michael,I assume you are referring to MS's original 172 panel. I can guarantee you that it is possible to have a highly functional C172 panel in FS2002 that even looks good. If you prefer it to be ugly, that is no problem. Functionality comes first, but if eye candy is there as well, I won't complain. Do you?Best regards,Henrihttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
