basics about the early adopter -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_adopter_(marketing)and some details on marketing -http://www.quickmba.com/marketing/product/diffusion/http://www.quickmba.com/marketing/product/lifecycle/summary:the more you are willing to wait, the more likely likely you will find 'the deal'. the more 'i must have that' your mindset the more you will pay.
Your marketing lessons are flawed. It seems the less frequently you pay a call PMDG website the less you pay for their products!http://www.precisionmanuals.com/ProductCar...mp;idproduct=25 - still for 80 bucks! No info about price lowering avaliable!

Blasphemy! You mean that products are getting cheaper as they get older?? Who ever heard of such a thing! :(

Guys Bestbuy, aerosoft, and pmdg, have a certain deal and there selling it at that price, it does suck for those that paid alot more money, I have bought many things that the cost went down over time, or saw it for a better price. there was a deal with gamestop and the game streetfight 4 for the xbox360, were it went down to like 20 dollars for like a few days, and most people that owned it and got it on release paid the full price I know alot of people got ###### off at that.

I know right? The plane has been on sale for about 2-3 years, now... I can't believe some are complaining... What do you expect after such a long time. For video games prices can go down early as 6 months! I think almost any product that has been on the market for such a long time will be dropped in price, and you can't really complain about that... Also when you pay for the product, you lose some money in your account, savings, piggy bank, etc, but if you have a job, or get paid regularly you make up the deficit pretty fast... Don't see what all the hubbub is about

So why there was not any announcement from PMDG about lowering 747 price on their website or on this forum?? Why does this plane still cost 80 bucks in their E-store and elsewhere?? Why such a secret?? Do other forum members have to inform us about new price here??If developer decide to make such sharp price reduction it is obvious customers should be informed about that in advance! So now uninformed people still buy PMDG 747 for 80 USD due to lack of information. As I remember deep FSX add-on promotions were made public prior to release like famous CS 10 EUR low-price day. Besides 747 was very expensive product and now it is funneled into F-lite add-ons price range - three times below its initial cost. There is absolutely no excuse to make such advanced aircraft a kid's toy category member, so slait is right! No one can imagine 747 will lose some of its great features since 13th October. Otherwise people may wonder if 747 was not overpriced from the beginning and now PMDG tries to gain more clients at previous clients expense. OK, it would be understandable to lower its prise to 50-60 dollars but 30 bucks is a huge derision.Another story: Why does PMDG treat unequally their client base? Unfortunately it is impossible to buy 747 in the Best-Buy living outside US. Anyway now purchasing any plane from PMDG and paying huge amount of money (80 bucks or so) on it is absolutely wrong move because later (even very quickly!) it may turn out such clients simply much overpay! So I will not purchase anything from PMDG and also won't recommend PMDG products to others in the future. I regret I trusted PMDG trademark (I pay much but I get the best unique products) but now enough is enough! Queen of the Sky is not a teen toy and I am not a teen to lead me for the nose! I am not interested in "great sudden news" about MD-11 for 30 bucks funny gift for kids on Christmas and many others either. So do not expect too many acquisitions of your remaining planes now for 80 bucks, Dear PMDG Team! Think about add-ons for ten dollars: quite friendly price range as for kid's pocket and no need for promotions...promotion is all the time! :(FAREWELL!

Wow... not even sure where one would start with all that. So, you're upset that prices are not consistent across all retailers carrying a given product? How many other manufacturers directly sell a product for the "list price" and then distribute units of the same product to other retailers that can then sell it at a different and even, gasp, lower price than the manufacturer? Sounds extraordinarily common to me. In fact this whole scenario sounds extraordinarily common. Why would PMDG bargain hunt for you and then advertise where you can find the lowest price for a product? Who does that?

Of course right situation is if one retailer sells the same product three times cheaper than others? Great! So remaining retailers will bankrupt because no one buys there. Free market - you know...

As has already been pointed out here, PMDG-747 is an older product now. But that aside, I suspect that Aerosoft may be trying to make a more permanent foray into "brick and mortar" stores. With that, several things have to be considered, not the least of which is the price point. Best Buy prides themselves on being a "discount" retailer. I would think that they may have some input into a price point that their walk in customers would support. Because Best Buy carries so many products for a rather diverse clientele, new products have to be far more attractive to the consumer than they might have to be in a "specialty store" such as a flight sim only store. Lower prices bring a a huge potential for "impulse buyers" who may rarely, if ever, buy add-ons. Without them, sales would probably be rather dismal except for a few flight sim junkies like us. I'm quite certain that both Aerosoft and PMDG want to see their sales maximized, probably in support of future retail plans. If that is the case, they are certainly taking the right steps, IMO. To get into more stores, they simply need to prove that their product can be attractive and will sell. If they can't do that, it'll be back to "on line" only.

The complexity of the PMDG 747 may work against that strategy, especially with impulse buyers who may never have flown anything other than default aircraft. They may try it, get discouraged and leave it in the hangar. On the other hand, the A2A J-3 Cub would be perfect for that market.
you must be kidding ... :(
No! You can get it right now in the PMDG E-store...don't hestitate any longer! Just%20Kidding.gif@Kevinc5: You are right - kids will abandon Queen very quickly or even return it to Best-Buy because this is not plane similar to stock FSX Jumbo in any way. So entire Aerosoft/PMGD marketing strategy will vanish. On the other hand many people who purchased this plane for 80 bucks are a big los-ers and they do not forget that. Moreover we can't be sure next PMDG product won't follow such scheme so we had better stay away from PMDG E-store. In a few months our lovely Best-Buy will give us great threefold bonus! Then this developer will understand its mistakes.

You have a valid point...however, this initial foray into retailers may be about more than just one of the company's products and one retailer. I'm just guessing here, but it seems logical.

you didn't get my sarcasm ... there is no obligation for a business to pre-announce a price change. nor is a business required to match the price of another retailer.
@Kevinc5: You are right - kids will ... return it to Best-Buy
no ... "Opened computer software, movies, music and video games can be exchanged for the identical item but cannot be returned for a refund." (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=page&contentId=1117177044087&id=cat12098)

no ... in about three years if the so called 'best buy discount theory' holds. but by then all will be using aerosoft's FS.if you are willing to wait, great deal. see -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opportunity_cost--
... this initial foray into retailers ...
not the first ... i have seen the NG in big-box stores (USA).--

- Of course retailers are not obliged to inform clients about price change or have the same price as others but your marketing theory is very naive because you should know there are two sides needed to make business: retailers and clients. And clients can also pay retailers back here - simply by giving such retailers and developers a miss in return for treating them as kids not able to differentiate between 80 and 30 bucks price for identical product. I think this particular retailer/developer fully deserves this and will experience this badly.- If kids cannot get their money back they exchange Queen for some good F-lite airliner or other toy costing 30 bucks. Moreover one kid tell another not to buy Queen because it is too hard thing to fly for kids. As you can see this Aerosoft/PMDG marketing move will suck anyway. Sheer kids' client base will shrink very quickly and old outfoxed clients will leave PMDG permanently. - Unfortunately I am not so sure about remaining PMDG products not ending in the Best Buy cheap offer. Sooner or later this is quite probable for MD-11 and all FS2004 line of products. The same as for fable about Aerosoft's FS gaining this market. Many want to occupy former MS position on the flight-sim market like Oleg Maddox with his SoW game engine for example. Yet the most probable curse of action is that MS will hire Aces Studio once again to create FS11. No one would dare to compete with them including Aerosoft then.PS. Do you know anything about Wilco E-jets in the Best Buy for 20 bucks??? Maybe this discount store will become FS simmer's heaven soon...

Wiking they're your words not mine ;) ...as you summarily dismiss some long held principles of market economics. No matter, you're frustrated and you feel cheated. But there isn't enough information to make a lot of conclusions right now.It
