LNAV mode just turns me due north, wont follow route

Hello- up until recently I have had no problems at all with the J41 but it seems more and more often I am having this problem. I am having with abuot every other flight now and there doesnt seem to be any commanality to it. Normally when I take off, I will hand fly the plane til I am following the course on the map mode and am at a 170kt climb. I will then engage the AP in NAV and IAS mode. Well now, when I turn on NAV mode, the green CAP light comes on, but the planes starts a turn to the north and continues due north until I either engage HDG mode or turn off the AP and hand fly it. If I turn MAP mode off, the HSI works correctly, meaning I can manually track the correct route in LNAV, but if I engage NAV mode it immediately starts a turn to due north.I've also tried going direct to a different fix along my route in an attempt to 'reset' the FMS but that doesnt work either.

There are any number of reasons why it turns North, but you didn't provide much in the way of information for someone to figure out what is going on. What is your flightplan, are you using a SID and if so which one and what is the first fix you are turning to?? Give us enough to visualize the problem.

Dan, this happens if I am flying a SID as well as if I just programmed it to go from the runway straight to a VOR. I apologize, I dont know how much more info you need. What happens is I push the NAV button, the CAP light comes on and no matter what the flight plan, fix, or direction the plane is flying, it begins a turn to the north (000) and stays that way. Then no matter what I do through the flight, LNAV will not work (meaning when I turn it on, the plane will turn due north and stay that way). Then, to fly my route I either need to just tune and track the VORs manually in NAV mode, or just watch the MAP mode and follow the track using HDG mode. NAV mode works fine if I am using VORs, this problem only occurs when I am using LNAV.The last three flights I did where this occurred was:KDEN PLAINS4.HCT J60 LNK DSM DBQ KDBQKDBQ DBQ JOT J30 APE KCMHKCMH APE V523 ERI V14 BUF KBUFnext flight I do I can take some screenshots for you if you think it will help. But like I said before, the problem just started in the last week and I'm not doing anything differently. I've got nearly 80 hours in the J41 and the problem never occurred before.I have also not recently installed any additional addons or AIRACs.Thanks

Hi,Ensure the "Avionics Master Switch" is on in the default Cessna, ten try again. If that is on, check the NAV/GPS switch is set to NAV, again in the default Cessna.Best regards,Robin.

Robin I'll try that - I have started loading the sim from the default cessna recently as suggested by someone here...

Yes, i had this happen once just after the JS41 entered my hangar. I thought it had something to do with my programming of the FMC. Dunno, but a fresh Cessna start flight (everything switched off) and fresh JS41 start flight upon that, cured the problem.Gerrit

Hi,I used to have this problem when i was starting with a js41 saved flight.Pascal.

I simply use the Trike as my default, never had to mess with switches before but FSX needs to have something loaded before loading a saved JS41 flight. My recollection of the reason for this is that FSX doesn't pass information to the flight loaded from free flight but it does when loaded from the flight menu method. I might have the reason wrong.. my memory being what it is.

Gents,This is related to the saved situation, and the fix is pretty simple: Next time you start the saved JS41 situation you're using to begin your flights, wait until the situation is fully loaded, then RELOAD the JS41. (I have a hotkey set up for this, and it's available in the FSX controls setup.) IMMEDIATELY after you reload the JS41, make sure the cockpit is configured the way you want it and save the situation again. You can save on top of the existing situation. One thing to note: Often times, when you reload the JS41, you'll hear that the engines are running through their startup cycle. They're not, but they'll sound like they are. Press both STOP buttons to clear this.

Ok i've done a couple flights.... the first one worked like a charm. I started FSX in the default cessna with everything turned off. I made sure NAV was selected on the gps selectorand avionics were on. Everything else was off.I then loadded up my saved J41 scenario, then once it was loaded, I went to the select an aircraft window, selected the J41, and "reloaded" it. (is that what you meant by reload)Second flight.....I just took off for my second flight and it happened again. I flew the plane until it was on course and as soon as I turned on the AP the in LNAV NAV mode, the plane started a right turn to 000 degrees where it remained. The second time I didnt go through all the reload the aircraft stuff. Kurt do you go through all that every time you start a flight? I always just loaded up the J41 and off I went with no issues before this started happening.Dan what do you mean by default flight? Does that mean when FS starts it loads a flight in the trike, then you load you J41 flight? If so when the trike loads, is it turned on, off, flying , parked etc?

what do you mean by default flight?
When FSX loads change from the Trike to the Cessna 172. Then click on "Save", give it a name and check the box "Make this the default flight". Exit and reload and the Cessna should come up now. Then switch to the JS41 and configure your flight. Anyway, this is how I do it and it saved me many control problems starting way back with the Cheyenne, like burning out of only one tank and loss of some control functions.

Ok that's what I'm doing....just making sure

Noah,Once you reload the plane you have to resave the situation, or the next time you start that situation you've have the same problem again.

Noah,In addition to what the others have said, I have experienced an issue whereby the FSX flightplan (for default ATC) messes up the current FMS leg, and the autopilot begins to wander off. This usually happens after opening or changing your IFR flightplan in flight. Are you doing that by chance? Probably not, but I thought I'd ask.Regards,Nick
