Tom Gibson: Convair 580 question

Recommended Posts

Guest cw1011

Tom:I have one question for you about the wonderful Convair panel at HJG for the turboprop Convair. In the note from the Convair pilot, it notes that this plane is somewhat unique in that there is no prop control. The plane has a controller that keeps the blades spinning at a standard RPM that automatically adjusts pitch when power (i.e. Jet A in the combustion chamber) is added or pulled back. So, why is it in the start-up notes the pilot says set the props to "fine" using the MSFS keyboard controls, if in fact, there is no prop control in the cockpit? Further, I've noticed that adjusting the prop with keyboard commands does significantly alter the engines' performance - so where should the props be set when starting the sim (and then left alone, I am assuming)for maximum realism? Many thanks for your answers. Colin

I think this might stand a better chance of being seen by being placed in Tom's forum at Simufly. Go to www.calclassic.com and then click on the link to his forum.I check those Simufly forums all the time...the people there are very good about getting back to you!Matt

Hi,I try to check these forums, but the messages go by so fast I miss many of them... :)The quick answer is that they should be put at full fine before starting the engines, and never touched again. We have to work within the FS engine structure, so we assumed they were full fine when developing the flight dynamics.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
