XP or ME for FS2004? - in relation to system resources

Recommended Posts

I am building a new machine -- upgrading from a P3/1000 based machine to an XP2400/TI4200 one.I have been perfectly happy using Windows ME to date -- and have read that XP uses a lot more resources and memory than ME. However, I realise that XP is the "current" OS and am prepared to move to it.BUT - because I am happy with ME and prepared to stay with it, I do not want to move to XP if it does in fact weigh down this new machine. With 512 meg DDR Ram , am I likely to see any performance hit by using XP instead of ME?Thanks Barry

Hi Barry,I found XP to be a lot more reliable than Me. As to resources, yes, it needs more memory, but as far as FS2002 goes (don't have FS2004 yet :)), 512MB should be enough. When I upgraded to 1GB of RAM, I only notice a difference in very dense situations, i.e. lots of add-on scenery, huge amount of AI and a resource-hungry plane like the RFP 747. So, rather than seeing a performance hit, I would expect the opposite - your performance should improve slightly.Cheers,Gosta.http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg
