FS9 in Windows 7, anyone tried it yet?

I'm wondering why this topic isn't in the dedicated Windows 7 forum? The OP's question is covered very completely in that forum and the discussion here is creating two places one has to search for Win7 information.

When I get a new PC later this year, I will be getting the 64-bit version of Windows 7. My plan is to have one 7200rpm HD for the OS and other programs and a 150GB HD at 10,000rpm for just FS9 or even FSX.Before that, I plan to use Norton Ghost to make a complete backup of my current hard drive with my FS9 install and the many, many addons I have for it. Once I install FS9 onto the new PC, I'll use Ghost to copy back the addons that I have. Naturally I expect to have some issues at first expecially with registration, but I'll be able to work those things through. That's my plans for going to Windows 7. My plans are very close to hjwalter's instructions he posted above and as listed below:"Install your version of Win-7 on your new machine in it's own partition

I don't even want to get into it... :( I guess you could say the average $700 PC at Best Buy able to run FSX with all add-ons (FS9 port overs included) smoothly with all sliders maxed...You can't run FS any version with something like this. If the OS is totally new there's registry info that has to be accounted for especially if your using add-ons (a big 'especially' for Flight1 products). FS has to be properly installed as well as most add-ons. If you think about it doing it any other way would be impossible for various add-ons to be installed because the OS wouldn't officially know where FS was located. If you buy a new computer and configure your FS drive as a secondary drive the old FS install won't work, FS won't load up. Even if FS does load up (by an act of the higher power) many of your add-ons planes won't load their perspective gauges as well as many other unforeseen problems. With Flight1 products you have to go so far as to run the Flight1 wrapper for the gauges to register in the OS or nothing works. This got me when I upgraded to my current computer. I ran the installers and the gauges wouldn't work in the various aircraft. The planes would load up but no gauges. I was amazed to find I had to go back on Flight1's website and re-download all the wrappers, run them, let them place new installer files on my machine, and then click through the menu again to install the aircraft a second time. All that crap is a pain that's why it took me so long to upgrade my machine which I'm actually glade I did. I guess XP is fine for my needs for some time to come. When I decide to go to FSX I'll get a Windows 7 pre-installed box...
I have run FS9 from a different HD. FS will create a new folder in the My Documents folder along with creating a new registry entry. The last time I installed a new OS (XP Home), I did just that and even with my PMDG planes (737NG and Beech 1900C/D), both worked fine and had no problems. I didn't have any other payware aircraft at that time (about 2 years ago) and even now, I only have 2 more payware aircraft (MAAM's DC3 and B-25). I did do a fresh install of FS9 and FSX on my new PC, but dropped aircraft and paints into the proper folder(s) along with sceneries I had previously installed (easier that way). Now it may have been just me, but it does work. How well it will work with Win7 is a guess, but I see no reason why it wouldn't save for other payware aircraft outside of PMDG's first releases.

Indeed !! evil.gifJob for a mod ... two mouse clicks (MOVE to ....) Regards.bye.gifGus.

I have a comment or two for Win7x64:I installed it today, as it officially came out and I have couple of problems, already.First of all, my cursor is black if I set cursor to anything but (none) in the Mouse Control Panel. It happens in full screen only. This happens with no regard to if Aero is activated or not, or even if classic windows is used. Also, if I press Alt to access the menu, screen flickers quickly, same happens when exiting the menu.I installed the latest drivers with Nhancer, apart from the problems mentioned, everything is working great.

I upgraded from Vista Premium 64 to Windows Premium 64. Everything seems to run well. It strikes me as the operating system that Vista should have been. I will always be wary of Microsoft after Vista.
