AirSimmer doubts that there will be upgrade!

Recommended Posts

I quote from the AirSimmer forums...

It's without doubt, under consideration. We don't want users to purchase on the grounds they think there will be an update though, so the official stance is currently No upgrade. We listen though, and it will be considered :).
Seems that the reason AirSimmer doesn't have an upgrade path for the Basic version is that they don't want anyone who purchases the Basic version to buy it expecting that an Advanced version will be forthcoming!Their no upgrade policy makes perfect sense now!edit: In other words they are preventing the situation whereby by offering an upgrade to advanced version people buy the basic version now with the expectation of upgrading to the advanced version when released. With a no upgrade policy AirSimmer is not obliged to release anything in the future.

I agree... Whoever wrote that statement doesn't know what the final dicision will be so their playing it safe. I just bought the add-on taking a bet they will concede the point. I'm glade I did because what I'm finding with this add-on is amazing with one big issue that I hope get's addressed soon. I wrote a mini review/observation on what I've found so far in another thread...

It's incredible how people, human kind in general, can complain just about anything (I am also referring to the other 5-page Airsimmer thread). When PMDG has a policy of not saying anything, people complain - give us release date, give us screenshots, how can you be so cruel PMDG, yadda yadda yadda...When PMDG releases a product which has some bugs in it, after everyone's big expectation - people complain. When Airsimmer takes two years to come to some sensible alpha solution, and open an ET, people complain - paying for testing, not updating often enough (yes, I am on the ET team, I know what's going on), always new bugs coming in etc. When Airsimmer takes lots of time to develop in general, people complain! When Airsimmer releases a product, which is usable, and in general has no more bug than any other normally released product - people complain! When Airsimmer says openly into the crowd their business decisions - people complain! - they have a new concept of doing business, and it's up to them to decide it's course.COME ON!!!I suggest those "specialists" take a reflective look at themselves and start living a life. There is much more beyond flight simulation and like any other hobby, it has its uprises and downfalls. Complaining is not the way of happy life. Try suggesting instead of complaining.

Sorry, but what's 'having a life' or not got to do with it?We're talking about a commercial FS product here. This is the most important FS community website. Many of us are trying to decide whether to spend our cash in these economically-straitened times. So why can't people sound off - or indeed praise to the skies - this or ANY product?Of course there's more to life than FS! And I don't think anyone need tell others to 'get a life'. That classic and pointless response is always rolled out at some stage when there's a bit of dissatisfaction or argy-bargy. Others are "it's only the price of a meal out, so get over it" or "the real plane costs 60 million dollars, so you're getting it cheap..." If I go to my local garage, bank, supermarket, school etc to complain about some aspect of 'real life' I don't expect the person to try and resolve the problem by telling me "there's always FS, you know..go and get flight simming!.." As long as people keep a civil tongue in their heads, I think it's vital they be allowed to express themselves. The onus is on the company now to respond to the voice of their customers, both current and potential. I think if this upgrade path business is sorted out it'll take a lot of heat out of the situation and allow many more of us to do what we want to do, and buy the actual product... Best wishesIan

It comes down to simple economics...1. Buy the Basic Edition for $39.95. But when the Advanced Edition comes out, I really want that. Since there is no upgrade price, I pay $89.95 for that. Now, assuming I did not ask for a refund from Flight1 for the cost of the Basic Edition within 30 days of my purchase, It has now cost me $129.90 to get the Advanced Edition.2. I thought about it and decided not to buy the Basic Edition because I am a hardcore cimmer who wants all the bells and whistles that the Advanced Edition offers. I didn't buy the Basic Edition because there was no offer to upgrade for the price of the difference between the two (i.e. $50.00). So because I waited, I only paid $89.95.3. I bought the Basic Edition today because AirSimmer decided (finally) to offer purchasers of the Basic Edition a special upgrade price of $50.00 to buy the Advanced Edition. I am happy with this because I have now got the Advanced Edition for $89.95.What would YOU do? I seriously doubt any intelligent person who wants the Advanced Edition would buy the Basic Edition first for $39.95 in the knowledge that they will then have to pay another $89.95 for the Advanced Edition. Only an absolute moron would do that. Such a waste of money doing it that way.

I think this will be the beginning of the end for AirSimmer, even if they come to their senses at some stage and offer an upgrade of some sort. I don't see many people maintaining their faith in AirSimmer, to be honest.

Until yesterday there wasn't a basic or advanced edition in the horizon, it's just popped out. that leads me to believe that before they finish up with the advanced, or whatever version you want to call it, there will be much more changes in the products, plans, schedules, priorities..One thing I wouldn't like to see for example is they model the NAV and PROF modes to some extend, and call it the advanced edition, and then create a super-duper ultra advanced no limit edition with more FMGS features, like holdings, procedure turns, or overfly option (which are supposed to be in the original product ), throw in some more eye candy and voila; there goes another $40. And please let's not forget that they weren't willing to offer an upgrade until getting such strong criticism here. Technical resons? Hardly.. It's clear as day that they would like to charge you again for what you already paid for and currently posses. If there's an another way of accomplishing that, they'll figure it out.I simply don't like their way of doing business, flipping things as they go and having such relaxed release criterias and disciplines are definitely not good signs for a company. You agreed to pay $40 for an unfinished (bug and ctd wise) product with limited capabilities, period.I hope you're happy with your purchase, and having fun with it and I wish some day they manage to finish the project AND clean up the bugs, however, until that day, I'm not encouraging or supporting them with a purchase.
