Thats It!, I have finally decided over the period of a year, I am going to earn some money and I am going to get myself a FSX system that will have the sliders all fully and with tons of scenery and aircrafts and traffic! I understand now that FSX has become a lot popular and I have also realised that I am missing out on some extraordinary good things in FSX, such as the PMDG J41 and other things like the upcoming level d 757 and weather add-ons, it is a big thing for me as I know it is going to cost a lot of money. I will still install FS9, but now I have realised that there really is a big step up from FS9. Therefore if possible I will like anybodies help in showing me what would be a great system for FSX, for under

First and foremost - even with the most powerful machine all slider to the right with comlex add-ons will give you sort of a slideshow...To the point - if you want to see more in FSX you have to pay for it - every GHz to your CPU and every GB RAM counts here. Good quality main board will give you a stable system (pay attention to the cooling and the Power Supply here), good CPU (like i7) will give you better productivity - understand more FPS, good videocard (like nVidia GTX280) will give better image qiality, HDD with good Read/Write ratings (like Velociraptor) will give you smoothness in the flight etc.I would advise you to invest more money in the Mother Board / CPU tandem backed up by a good power suplly and cooling.Then think about the RAM - look fo thriple channel (DDR3) - good starting point is 4 GBInvest in a good quality video card (there are many on the market but not all will give you stability and performance you are looking for)Big size flat screen will make you VEEERY happy sim flyier, believe me...... Then comes all the rest.That is the easy part. The more tricky part is to make all this work with the best FSX performance... Good place to start your search Alexei is pcspecialist.co.uk assuming, of course, you are in the UK lol - I took a look at this site when thinking of taking the 'plunge' into a more 'fsx friendly' pc and was reasonably impressed.Of course I built my own in the end but the site provided a good insight.I'm well impressed with my i7 and Windows7 64bit. And I might add my 'aged' Nvidia 9800 card, don't laugh, it works well for fsx. Will be my next upgraded bit though.John Ellison

If his budget is 2000, there's absolutely no reason not to get an i7 system, a Core 2 is going to be much slower in FSX...

It's ok but I'd go for 2 hard drives (raptors if you can) - so games can run on the second one and not be slowed by the single drive heads having to work so hard.I'd lose the internal card reader too and use a plug in usb one as the internal ones are notorious for problems. Be aware you'll probably need a DVI lead if the monitor doesn't come with one.Other than that it'll run a treat - I've got the "el'cheapo" i7 (dual core) and a 9800 Nvidia card and that still runs the MD-11 and REX2 at LEPA (Aerosoft HUGE addon) at around 28fps - that's about the minimum fps I'll get I think as that scenery slowed the Core2 3Ghz to a crawl (5fps and getting like a slideshow using default planes).John Ellison

I wouldn't advise that. Onboard sound takes a ton of CPU to push, and you will see huge fps hits if you go that route. I have the motherboard and CPU you listed and have recently replaced the on board audio with the Soundblaster X-FI Titanium and see a huge difference! I have the Asus P6T6 RW, and the i7 920 (266) running at 3.80 with stock cooling and is very very stable. If you go this route, let me know and I'll list my overclock settings.I also have a NVidia GTX 295 in my rig, but if I were to do it again I would stear clear and even though I am normally against AMD (sorry, I'm just old and stuck in my ways) I would have to say that from everything I've read for FSX, they currently hold the spotlight. I would go with AMD (ouch that hurts me to say, haha). I think their current king is the Radeon 5870 as stated above.Hope this helps. Oh, and if you don't have the coin for a sound card now, that's fine, but when you get one, come back to this post and let us know what a huge difference it was. :)Good luck!

Sounds fine...Remember if you do partition - W7 has a habit of using it as C and E with your second hdd as D. As long as you're aware of that - like I wasn't and had to do a bit of 'sideways' disk management lol. Just hope W7 sees the wireless card ok.3d vision = a gimmick to me lol some like it though.NICE cooler for overclocking there :( You'll REALLY be impressed.John Ellison
