Caribbean Mesh and Scenery

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, been doing a lot of flying in the Caribbean and I was wondering if you guys had some recommendations of mesh and scenery for this area, either free or payware. Looking for good quality (not real complex and realistic) and have checked out quite a few files in the library, got a great mesh for Jamaica and a pretty good version of Norman Manley Intl (Jamaica).BTW, as an FYI I have checked out the J.Martin files for the Bahamas and the new C. Marrero Puerto Rico files as well. Thanks!Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

Let's see....for mesh there is:srtm_jamaica.zip and srtm_trinidad_tobago.zip in the AVSIM file libraryAlso most of Toni Agramont's scenery packages also include mesh files. I don't particularly like his Caribbean sceneries; just by looking at them you can tell he's never been there but if you examine them carefully you'll find mesh. His Jamaica_ta.zip scenery comes with pretty good mesh for Jamaica but I guess that is now superceded by the more accurate SRTM version.I'm guessing also that you have Kamal Clark's MLY2K2.zip which is a very good rendition of the Manley International Airport and you'll also need CARIBILS.ZIP which is a replacement .bgl file that adds the ILS at Montego Bay. CARIBILS.ZIP is only available at http://home.bellsouth.net/p/s/community.dl...userpw=.&uh=1,0,Bill Melichar has excellent versions of Piarco (Trinidad) and Crown Point (Tobago) airports.

Thanks bro, you pretty much listed all that I have found except for the ILS at Montego bay, thanks for the link. The srtm jamaica mesh is fantastic, a little FPS hit, but it is still very nice.I talked my CEO at my VA to let me start up some hubs in this area. I found all the airlines that are at Manley for AI (except WinAir) and I have almost finished our FBOs and other scenery addons, sure is a nice change of pace from the Pacific Northwest! LOLThanks againRegards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

Michael,You might like to try Orlando Sotomayor's 30 meter mesh for Puerto Rico purtmv1.zip combined with Juan Pizarro's Puerto Rico landclass prlandclass_108595.zip.There's a good landclass file for Jamaica somewhere, but I can't remember where I got it.John

Hey John, thanks!! I just found the Puerto Rico mesh (for FS2000) and it is wonderful (as all of Orlandos works are!) I based the main hub in San Juan as it is US soil (realism) and started building the FBO at TJIG and the new mesh looks great in the distance. I did notice the approach is a bit harsh with a large office building in the way, anyone know if this is how the real approach is?? I was thinking of removing it (or evacuating)! LOLI will see if I can find the landclass you mentioned, any chance you could email it to me?thanks again!Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

I spotted some TJSJ scenery uploaded to the file library in the last week. I tried downloading it but all I got was junk.Have you looked at it?

The only thing I have seen recently is the San Juan Bay scenery by C. Marrero which came out a few weeks ago. I checked it out, but being a scenery designer I am a bit more critical than most. I know alot of work went into it, but there was a very extensive use of freeware macros, so it didn't "blend" very well and because of it there was a big hit on performance, but it was a nice effort and layed out very well, just wasn't for me. I have checked a few more of his and about the same. Once he starts making his own objects and getting more into it his stuff will be great. I don't fly the big iron much, mostly bizjets and twin props, been using the Cessna 421, the FSD Cheyenne and the Gulfstream by Rick Sasala (panel by Jorge Salas) mostly, so landing at smaller airports is easier and more enjoyable for me.Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

Every Caribbean Island I've tried in FS2004 has new mesh scenery, which is a great improvement over FS2002. Just so you're aware..Two pics in attachments:L.Adamson

Thanks so much!!! I am sooooo looking forward to the new sim! I plan on still working on this deal as some of our pilots don't have the machines or don't plan to get FS2004 right off, (INLIKE ME!)I had seen pics of TNCM in the SS forum, looks awesome!I am noticing in a good portion of FS2004 shots that there isn't much of a coastline anymore, can you verify this??Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.com

Hi Michael,You should check out this site for meshs of Guadeloupe, Martinique and Montserrat islands, and a few others:http://www.jg-laurent.com/The site is in french, but everything you need is right there on the front page. This other site is entirely dedicated to flying in the Caribbean, both real and simulated, and is very well done:http://skydig.free.fr/If you are not comfortable with reading french, here is how to access all their scenery for fs2002:-Click on "Telechargements" from the "Simulation" menu-Select "FS2002-Scene" from the dropdown list at the bottom of the page-Click on "Rechercher"Hope this helps,Alex

Awesome Alex, thanks for those links!!! I can understand a little bit of French and enough to navigate, but thank you for taking the time to explain it, much appreciated! Seems mesh is taken care of in this area, very cool. If only the default airports looked more realistic it would make landing at them not so bad! LOLI found a link to a charter company out of San Juan that uses the Piper Aztec and it had a listing of their destinations and charges, talk about adding to the realism! LOLThanks for all the help! This venture for my VA should be alot of fun, I know the CEO and myself are really getting into the area. Here is a pic of the new FBO I built at Manley, simple, but you get the idea. thanks again!Regards, Michaelhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VAwww.calvirair.comCougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviationwww.cgrmtnhelos.comhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/21512.jpg

Just saw it and went and got it, WOW, what a difference, both places, totally changed the whole landscape in Jamaica and now there are palm treews to blend with the ones I added at TJIG! LOL Thanks so much for the links!! Been a productive day off! LOL Gotta run, my pax in the Cessna 421 is getting a little impatient!
