DX10 Runway/Taxiway flickering FIX !

Featured Replies

My thanks to james_2k and everyone else contributing to this thread,also....It has encouraged me to download ADE(finally) and start the learning process....Lou
That's great, Lou! The more of us that work on fixing the airports, the faster they'll all get done. You should be able to learn what you need to do in ADE very quickly, since you really only need to figure out two tools in order to fix airports. Plus the things we need to add to each airport to fix them can easily just be stuffed under a building somewhere on the airport, so we don't need to worry about making the things we add look good, since no one sees them. Good luck, and I look forward to hearing your progress, as well as what area you plan on tackling once you're comfortable with ADE. :)-George

Hi Lou,Uh-oh... I think I know that sound... adding buildings, changing the airport to be more like the r/w airport... I believe that you, sir, have just caught the 'airport design' bug. :) Seriously though, that's great that you already sound comfortable using ADE. You're already taking the airport fixes much further than I am, as my main purpose with each is to just get the flickering to stop. It sounds like you're already getting into not only fixing them, but actually improving them, which I think is fantastic! Our hobby can always use more talented airport designers (Lord knows I'm not one of 'em lol), so I'm looking forward to seeing your updated airports. Do you think you'll continue fixing/improving airports throughout Georgia, or is there another area/region/state that you think you may work on? I just want to get an idea, so that when I finish Florida, I'll know which state I should focus on next, and if you do plan on (or are considering) doing some or all of GA, then I can just skip north to SC. :)Anyhow, glad to hear you're getting through ADE so well, and can't wait to see your first updated airport. :)-George

ADE is a very powerful airport design tool. Several key factors when using the tool are very important.1. In the help menu update to our lastest version which helps eliminate OOM issues.2. ADE9X is designed to enhance all parts of the airport including the approach code mode tool that does not exist anywhere else. ADE is not designed to open airports in a sequence method and that can cause problems. Always open the stock airport, fix, save and compile. Close ADE and then restart / open the next airport.3. ADE generates a .ade binary project file. NEVER open a airport designed with ADE by opening the actual compiled .bgl file. When you save your new enhanced airport we generate the .ade binary file. When you compile we generate the actual .bgl file that FS9/FSX works with. If you have to reopen your airport always open the airport file that has the .ade extension (project file) and not the .bgl extension file.Compiling and decompiling the new enhanced airport .bgl file can cause you to loose certain airport features you actually added or changed. The .ade project file holds many parts of the airport not seen in the actual airport .bgl so it is very important we always work with the project .ade file.for all your questions and answers visit us at http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=95

Thanks for the info, jvile, very helpful stuff. :)Quick question for anyone who can take the time, can someone quickly run a check of the default KNDZ (Whiting Fld NAS South) for me? For some reason that airport is showing up below ground for me, and I want to know if it's just something on my end or not. It's the stock KNDZ with no addon sceneries added to my game (no UTX/GEX/Landclass products, etc). That's the only airport in all of Florida that's done it, and I don't want to mess with the airport's altitude if it's not broken anywhere else lol. Thanks in advance.-George

GeorgeOn my system the airport is showing correctly but I do have UTX, GEXn, FS Genesis and Florida Airports Vol 1 installed and even in DX10 I do not have any flickering.RegardsPeterH

Thank you, Peter. That airport doesn't flicker on my end either, however when I was going through each airport in the state, trying to figure out which ones did flicker, I noticed that at that airport (and only that one lol) that my plane was underground. After reloading several times and making sure any scenery addons are disabled, it's still showing as underground for me. :( Oh well, no worries since it isn't a 'flickerer' I won't have any need to include it in the updated Florida airports that I'm working on.Thanks again for the info, I appreciate it. :)-George

Actually...these fixes don't work for me. :(I must have something else going on here...will test more and report back.

That's strange. Are you running regular SP2 or Accel? I'm using Acceleration (and obviously, the SDK for Accel), and wonder if there's a difference between the two SDKs in the application of the 'fix'. If you would like, I can try using the 'quadruple fix' on them instead of the double-fix I used on the ones I sent you earlier. I worked through the entire state of Florida, and found 113 that needed fixing, and was able to get them all fixed on my end. I actually used the quadruple fix on about the last 40 or so just to get through them faster, and all worked for me. The only thing I'm doing differently is exiting and restarting ADE after every airport I do now, and it all seems to be working for me. I did post them to let people test them to see if they worked, but despite a good number of views, only one user responded (and verified) that the airports were also fixed on their end, so I know they're working for at least myself and one other person. :( Let me know if you want me to try and redo those airports again for you.-GeorgeEdit: I redid those airports again (KBTV, KBVY, KMMU) using the 'quad fix' method. No flickering here, so I uploaded them for you to try. Link:http://www.mediafire.com/file/xu5zmmzdmmt/...DX10QuadFix.zipLet me know if those do anything for you or not.

Hi :)I was wondering if you could help me please. I've downloaded ADE 9 and im trying to add in the fix. On any airport though I get the error below. I tried opening up a few airports (and made no changes) then compiled but still had the exact same error. I've double checked and those 3 paths are setup correctly (2 pointing to SDK dirs and 1 going to FSX)Im pretty just opening up an airport, then doing compile... ?ScruffyDuck Scenery Design Engine CompilingUsing UNKNOWN BglComp....Parsing document: J:\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\YMMB_ADEX_JM.xmlINTERNAL COMPILER ERROR: #C2031: Failed element parse <BoundaryFence>INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR: #C2032: XML Parse Error! turns out i needed to upgrade SDK.

My god, this must be the discovery of the century. I feel stupid now for having Windows XP... Only when XP fails me bigtime (and I have to do a complete reinstall), or when I get a new computer, will I be buying Windows 7. Such a pity, because of DX10 can really up my FPS, I might be able to actually use FSX proparly. And with this fix, I can finally make something good out of FSX. Until then, I'm just reading the topic, saving all that seems relevant to a text file and downlaod the utilities necessary. When the time comes, I'll be doing some serious additing ;-)Guys, thanks! You deserve a medal.

I'd be willing to hire any of you guys that would be able to make a way to automate this whole thing, wrap it up in a package, and distribute it out.Let me know if any of you got the skills to do that. I can't believe some of you are going through hundreds of airports and doing this manually. Doing just 1 myself would kill me >.<
