REX ENVMAP reflectivity

Recommended Posts

Gents, I purchased FS9 REX and it is FANTASTIC. A must have addition to FS9 IMHO. However, I have discovered an issue just to make you aware. REX installs a new envmap.bmp into your texture folder. Its larger than the original file or any replacements and Im sure has positive benefits to the Real Environment Xtreme product in ways I do not know. However, what I do know...is that it messes up your bare metal aircraft textures. It creates WAY too much reflectivity. As a guy who spends a lot of time creating metal textures as well as flying aircraft with bare metal skins, this was a problem.I fixed it by putting back the envmap.bmp I was using before, which was a 3rd party bitmap to start with. Unfortunately I dont remember which one it was.My only advice...before you install REX... back up this envmap.bmp texture then after trying out the new one, reinstall the old one. You'll keep the cool skies of REX but your metal will work like it should. (I do not know how it may impact the rest of the REX world.)
