Buying a new monitor

Featured Replies

Show me where one can purchase a high-end, new CRT for a price which is comparable to an LCD of similar size, quality, and resolution and I will leave this thread.
Again, who said anything about being able to purchase a high end

Thanks for reinforcing my point. What's the point of talking about how great CRTs are when you can't find them anymore? CRTs are absolutely archaic and not worth discussing anymore, except for reminiscing about "the good old days". Certainly not meaningful to a thread such as this, where the OP was (keyword: was) seeking advice on which product to purchase. For the record I have plenty of experience with high-end CRTs and LCDs over the last couple decades, monitors and TVs I've purchased, serviced, sold, recommended to friends and family, etc ad infinitum. Plasma > LCD > CRT > projection

Simple, to reinforce the fact that you're not going to get image quality that say a Trinitron CRT was able to put out from a cheap TN panel LCD, whether you can still buy a CRT or not.

Image quality is a vague, undefined term subject to viewer preference. I've already explained why LCDs are superior from a technical standpoint. If you prefer the blurry image produced by CRTs, good for you.

So you've explained why LCD's are superior in "image quality" from a technical standpoint, when?
In a previous post. That whole thing about orders of magnitude difference in contrast ratio. Do you know what that means?
Lol, what "blurry image produced by CRTs", you must have been using a low end CRT to see that.
The quality of the CRT only affects the degree to which the image will be blurry. Compared to any modern LCD or plasma there is a noticeable difference in sharpness. This is not debatable. I don't care if you prefer CRTs, but don't even try to make this into a technical argument for there is none to be had.

Man, everyone relax. Unless you are completely obsessed with perfect color representation or are just extremely anal...or you are a professional photographer/graphic designer a nice samsung or LG TN LCD is just fine. You can't beat getting a great 24inch monitor for 220$. I just bought a Samsung 24inch for 218, couldn't be happier, and I've used everything from low end CRT, high end CRT, to 1000$ LCD monitors.

Do you? The contrast ratio that is listed on paper in most LCD
Do you? The contrast ratio that is listed on paper in most LCD's specs is just that, a specification on paper, how it translates to users perception of image quality is another thing. Get yourself in a real display forum since you seem know everything about this subject too.
I understand the difference between dynamic and static contrast. See my signature. I own a PLASMA tv because I know this *very* well. I've owned many high-end CRT tvs and LCD tvs and monitors over the last decade or so. Only with the recent introduction of full LED-backlit LCDs have LCDs been able to come close to matching plasmas.
Has there ever been with any of your so-called "technical arguments".
Nope. So why do you insist on arguing with me? I don't come to this forum to spout random nonsense, I say what I say because I am confident in my ability, knowledge, and experience.

Lol, random nonsense? How about "spouting random nonsense" about a 15-20% increase in FSX performance in that "glitch free" DirectX 10 preview? How about "spouting random nonsense" about how a GPU's memory bus has no effect on performance with certain games?Sorry great "Techguy Max" lot of us lost confidence in your ability, knowledge, and experience a long time ago.
Quite frankly I couldn't care less what *your* opinion is of me. I have plenty of messages in my inbox thanking me for specific help I've given to those in need.
