OK, well it has been a while, new faces and such. Just built a new rig and reinstalled FSX and add-ons and am very, very pleased with how FSX is performing.I guess the most demanding situation I have is running the CS727 over Aerosofts Manhattan and its all good, enough. however I have a few questions with regard to what is the latest and greatest etc:1. What is the latest as far as DX10 and the shimmering pollys on runways and the rare 3d object? anything fixes out there?2. What is the best or latest method to remedy the old dry grass desert textures that seem so out of place, cost no object, just whats the best? Rex Gex etc3.What is your favorite add-on and why? Thanks Folks!PaulL01

Paul,There is a fix to the runway flickers in DX10..Here's the thread...http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtop...&hl=flicker

Generally speaking, as in the case with Zeppelin, not much has changed. DX10 partial fix appears to be working, optimum setups rely on old-fashioned know-how and practical, individual experimentation, numerous fixes for the desertification have been discovered, some wonderful new addons have been released, and there is a vast wealth of information to be found in the forums just by searching them, or by grabbing a coffee and wandering through the first twenty pages. If you don't want to read, or won't tell us how long it's been or what you actually like, then just buy the following:PMDG J41, Ground Environment X, Ultimate Terrain X, L-39 Albatros, SibWings Birddog, A2A Cub, Aerosoft Catalina and a choice of tubes from any of the popular vendors and that's about it. There are others.

Thanks, though its the same old fix, its nice to see someone running with the ball trying to work it out for an automated setup. I was hoping this had already been done and there would be a download some where (but then I woke up) as hand coding the whole planet will take ...awhile.

Oh come on! :) John is doing Then Crooked Vultures and Jimmy is working on new stuff (so he says) and Robert...well I guess we are gonna get another country album....Best to enjoy Zepp back in its day, plenty of boots out there!FSX...Yes, UTX GEX and all, I just wondered if the feeling is still the same for these addons, sometimes theres just too much hype surrounding something because its new, if you know what I mean. Its hard to tell from the pix I see from both products but I still see the desert/dry grass textures although a bit less. I also see that when you combine the two products you can get strange combinations like green highway grass through a deserts, but that is proably very minor compared to the benefits. I bought lots of different landclass products in the past and none of them addressed the desert/dry grass texture problem. Still adding all my add-ons but have the itch for something new, I like the whole state of California as Photoreal from Megascenery or I may try GEX/UTX....Thanks.

Bits,If you want to replace those default desert textures...What A Wonderful World by Oscar Lima Golf.http://secure.simmarket.com/oscar-lima-gol...ful-world.phtmlThis does exactly what you want it to. I used it when I first started using FSX, but have since purchased UTX and GEX, and use those exclusively.

Thanks for the link and reply.Respectfully, I'll pass on those.I may dive into fixing these myself but I would rather focus on a finishing a photoreal scenery project thats been delayed about three years....On the other hand, REX, GEX and UTX look nice but I just dont like the occasion mix up of textures that you occasionaly get...hmmm

What you actually need to fix the desert textures used in the wrong place, is a good land class replacement, I use Cloud9 but others like FSG work just as well. Replacing textures alone is masking the problem, and could cause problems elsewhere if those textures are used somewhere where you should see desert textures. I also do recommend GEX/UTX combination for higher resolution textures and accurate coastlines, waterways, road and railroad placement. Note UTX includes it's own land class for urban areas only, you can continue to use default, or a 3rd party for all other areas. You will get best results with the 3rd party LC. To do this you create a sandwich between UT and LC in the Scenery DB. Order it UT Urban LC's then 3rd party LC then Other UT entries.

Thanks

If you are in to photo real you might want to check out the Sim Savvy scenery-basically the whole western us. I posted some shots in the screen shot forums. When it looks good it is great, there are some uneven places, but considering the size and no fuss I really like it.If you go to their site-then click the "new" tab-they have some free scenery for utah with 2 foot resolution-really nice! Also some free samples of the normal stuff.http://sim-savvy.com/

Thansk Geofa, trouble seems to be that some do great color correction and post proccessing and others dont. The Megascenery series is some of the best, but then they came out with the world serries and some of it gets no correction at all..barf. I may buy their California state pak though. I am puttsing around with my Rochester scenery again...new data set in hand, new system proccess time should be quicker than my old QuadAMD set up....What are your thoughts on REX, GEX and UTX?

You are correct about the color correction-some areas are breathtaking and some areas not so great.I have Rex, Gex, and Utx and they all add their own thing to the sim making all three must haves for me. Perhaps surprisingly the thing I like the most about Utx is the increased car traffic on more roads with little fps hit.
