Optimal NVIDEA Antialiasing/Anisotropic 3D Settings

Recommended Posts

FS2004, Windows XP Pro, 4GB memory, NVIDEA 195.62 driver on a [weak] 7900GS 256MB video card.My FS9 runs well all settings maxed but I still get some jagged graphics and text (e.g. airlines name text on PMDG/LDS767 aircraft liveries). My NVIDEA control panel settings are the default values, and the Antialiasing and Anisotropic settings are set to "Application Controlled". Would it be better to control these setting in the NVIDEA control panel? What would be the best 3D settings for optimal FS9 antialiasing and anisotropic results?Thank you in advance,Kerke

Go to www.nhancer.com and get version 2.5.7, install it, then Google NickN's setup guide. The nVidia display manager has settings coded for MSFS that you can't override with the nVidia software, and as a result you can't get AA to work right. nHancer can make the needed settings in the registry directly. Nick's guide is a good step-by-step for setting that up.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

Thank you Bob. I downloaded nhancer 2.5.7 but I am having a hard time finding NickN's setup guide for FS9. Do you have a link to NickN's guide?

I use Nick's setting for NHancer. However, just a question. HOW can these settings be considered right for all the various systems out there? The settings on Nick's page are the exact ones I use and they seem to work OK. I'd like to know if there are any "variations" of these settings used by some of us with powerful systems that work better. Stan

Well, as with most things, the more the better...so if your system can handle it, you can always crank up the AA. I just upgrade my monitor to a higher resolution and actually had to cut back on the AA back down to only multisampling to get my constant 60fps back...but with the larger resolution, its less noticeable.

Nick's settings are a good center-of-mass baseline configuration. Sure, you can dial up some of the settings with a more powerful system--I generally crank up the AA to 8x and the AF to 16x unless I'm headed into the NYC Metroplex, London, etc. But that said, if you don't know fully understand the consequences and mechanics of those changes, deviating from that baseline can take your performance down in a hurry.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO
